Actress Daryl Hannah arrested in front of White House
Source: NBC

Much-arrested Hollywood actress Daryl Hannah was taken away from the White House in restraints Tuesday afternoon.

Hannah was taking part in an ongoing protest against the unbuilt Keystone XL oil pipeline.

"Sometimes it's necessary to sacrifice your freedom for a greater freedom," Hannah said in Lafayette Park before her arrest. "And we want to be free from the horrible death and destruction that fossil fuels cause, and have a clean energy future."

With dozens of others, Hannah sat on the sidewalk in front of the White House and refused three requests from the Park Police to move.

I believe aspergers is a very high-level functioning sort of autism. In fact, some are highly intelligent.

What I do do is work out one heck of lot, I try to eat healthy, and I use Omega 3. That seems to help me.

I've thought for a while that I had asperger's, but I love joking and laughing at jokes. And, while I am shy, I can do okay in a social situation, even among strangers.

From what I've read, none of that is true of a person with asperger's. However, I found out not long ago that I have ADD.

I did see her smile when her arrest was being applauded by her fellow demonstrators, though.

the next part of the story will take place 10 years or so after the last movie time line wise and would likely involve Nikki the daughter of Vernita Green who the Bride killed in the kitchen near the beginning of the first film and that Sofie Fatale and Elle Driver as well might be involved as they may or may not have survived.

7. Isn't that a bit dramatic?
"Sometimes it's necessary to sacrifice your freedom ... "? She maybe spends 45 minutes getting booked and released (as planned, in these actions). What does she think, she's a Freedom Rider in Mississippi in 1961?

I'm not saying the cause is wrong, just that Daryl Hannah was always a bad actress.

why is mine attracting such attention? Because I berated her for overdramatizing what it means to get intentionally arrested for refusing to move?

But as to where I am: in another city, where I've been working all morning and now taking a lunch break as I wait for my conference call from New York. Sorry, I've got to earn a dime (and I do mean small change). And where were you?

55. If you know it for snark,
why post it. Shame.

I've been active in this fight for a while. But it doesn't matter where I am. I'm not the one belittling those who are doing something. If you need to take your important conference calls from New York to make a living, maybe you should be working harder and staying off the boards. Maybe you would be making more if you did more time working and less time playing on the boards.

98. {face palm} back at ya
As I suggested in my original post, I have no issue with the cause, with her protesting, or with her getting herself arrested.

I do have a problem with someone saying they are "sacrificing their freedom." She did not sacrifice more than 15 minutes of freedom, and it's an insult to people all over the world (say, people in Libya or Syria, or, as I mentioned, people like the Freedom Riders in 1961 Mississippi) who have truly put their freedom and even lives on the line for causes.

What great sacrifice of freedom did she make?

The consequences of today's collar proved pretty minimal: Hannah was not officially booked on charges and was released from custody after paying a $100 fine.

Read more: http://www.eonline.com/news/name_cause_daryl_hannah_busted_white/260976#ixzz1WZshGGaj

Now, be honest: did this woman sacrifice her freedom? No, she did not, and it was an overly dramatic thing to say, which does not help the credibility of this cause. I'm pretty surprised my minor comment about hyperbole should cause such a storm. I'm right about her statement, and I'm sticking with it.

Deal with it.

So, what are "our" issues now? Tax cuts for job creators, deep sea drilling and transcontinental pipelines?

What does posting on the internet in support of Obama do? You must think it accomplishes something or you wouldn't do it.

Well Darryl Hanna gets more publicity to draw attention to the pipeline by her demonstration than you do with your posts here.

And of course, you respect DU enough to state your position on the pipeline, don't you? Be brave! Speak from the heart! Tell us whether you support this pipeline or not. Do you have your own opinion on this?

They wasted years of their lives totally obsessed with some guy - trying to think of any little thing they could do which would please him. Losing all perspective, all touch with reality, all self-respect. That's what his true believers here remind me of.

Ya know, like Obama is secretly following their adoring posts on some political blog and One Glorious Day, he will call them - out of the blue - and say, Oh, my dear (fill in the name of infatuated supporter), your snark has been the inspiration which has kept me going. Please come and work for me right here in the White House!

Personally, I'm impressed with her. She likely knows something I don't about the pipeline plan. Just by that alone, I'm betting there's something not right about it... or downright evil. It's something I'll have to look into, and I'm glad that I've seen about her and the other fellow (NASA scientist) which brought my attention to it.

Still, I'm always amazed at how people are so willing to assign more meaning to what someone says than what they actually said. Rag on her?

"rag" means to insult, complain about, or ridicule.

I think demonstrating in front of the White House is the gold star of protests.
Treestar ridicules it as meaningless, i.e., not doing anything.

52. Daryl is doing good things.
It is sad that her activism is bringing out the worst frat-boy side of DU. Sneering and snarking from little boy-men who snicker when someone says fart. It is the dimmer side of having a celebrity president. The party has added to it's side a host of fan-based, personality-chasing, juvenile star gawkers. It shows up in those who support a person and not a principle.

Obama has his star power. It is a shame that with that come the drooling sexism and snarky comments from the newbies that will leave when a new shiny thing appears.

Good for Daryl. Shame on the snarkers.

71. Obama=snark
First off, snark is not the province of little "boy-men" I remember when Erica Jong said Matt Taibbi wanted to screw his mother because he would not vote Clinton, as well as the crassness of Roseanne Barr. Also, I remember when people kept calling Michelle a "cocktail waitress" on Hillary is 44.com. This is not about sexism, it is about the fact the a whole nation tends to beat up on any celebrity, because that is one of the few things that people feel good about, it is the reverse end of aristocracy worship. At least we are not like the Guardian UK, whose "comment" section takes snark to levells that make us Yanks look rather tame. It was around a long time before Obama, and will be here a long time after he leaves. The sad part is, every politician has to have the instincts of a celebrity to be in power now.

74. Daryl Hannah walks the walk - very impressive creds as environmentalist.
Edited on Tue Aug-30-11 06:14 PM by Divernan
From Wikipedia

Hannah, an active environmentalist, has her own weekly video blog called DHLoveLife<11> on sustainable solutions. She is often the sound recordist, camera person and on-screen host for the blog.<12> Her home runs on solar power and is built with green materials. She drives a car that runs on biodiesel.<13> In late 2006, she volunteered to act as a judge for Treehugger.com's<14> "Convenient Truths" contest.<15> On December 4, 2008, Hannah joined Sea Shepherd's crew aboard the MV Steve Irwin, as part of Operation Musashi.<16>

On June 13, 2006, Hannah was arrested, along with actor, Taran Noah Smith, for her involvement with over 350 farmers, their families and supporters, confronting authorities trying to bulldoze the nation's largest urban farm in South Central Los Angeles. She chained herself to a walnut tree at the South Central Farm for three weeks to protest the farmers' eviction by the property's new owner. The farm had been established in the wake of the 1992 LA riots to allow people in the city to grow food for themselves. However, the land's new owner, who had paid $5 million for it, sought to evict the farmers to build a warehouse. He had asked for $16 million to sell it but turned down the offer when the activists raised that amount. Hannah was interviewed via cell phone shortly before she was arrested, along with 44 other protesters, and said that she and the others are doing the "morally right thing".<17> She spent some time in jail.<18>

Hannah has also worked to help end sexual slavery and has been traveling around the world to make a documentary.<19>

Hannah was among 31 people arrested on June 23, 2009, in a protest against mountaintop removal in southern West Virginia, part of a wider campaign to stop the practice in the region. The protesters, who also included NASA climate scientist James E. Hansen, were charged with obstructing officers and impeding traffic after they sat in the middle of State Route 3 outside Massey Energy's Goals Coal preparation plant on Tuesday, the The Charleston Gazette reported.<20> In a Democracy Now! phone interview on June 24, 2009, Hannah spoke briefly on why she went to West Virginia and risked arrest.<21>

138. Senator Bill Bradley's book said Democrats seek out and focus
on a charismatic personality, while Republicans build their party from the base up, with a lot of organizations, and focus less on who runs for President.

I'm not sure what to make of Bradley, but I take his point. And I think Obama, who came out of relative obscurity, and slender experience, to win the Presidency, is a perfect example of what Bradley warned about. (Bradley did endorse Obama, though).

118. "A lot of people call Nixon a crook. Obama calls him an amateur."
Good link!

I think Obama may get re-elected. God knows he's in line to get more corporate funding than the potential GOP candidates. If Obama gets a second term, I agree with you, Shining Jack, that we will see much more of the same kind of sellout - more and bigger wars, more extreme Patriot Act destruction of constitutional rights, worse gutting of the social safety nets, less regulation of fracking, mountain top removal, and other environmentally destructive corporate endeavors.

If Obama is defeated, at least our Democratic party can start purging itself of the 3rd way, mounting an opposition to the GOP and rebuilding support for traditional Democratic programs and values.

85. Read this earlier in the day
Then, on the drive home, I decide to see what the reich wing is up to, and there's Darryl Hannah on Hannity's radio show! (Yes, I sometimes listen to the dark side of the force, mostly to hear them wail, but occasionally to see what they're up to.)

Of course, I had to listen. She was making her points, but Hannity was doing his best to try to make her look like a fool. Not sure what she thought she was doing by talking to his audience in the first place.

91. It takes a lot of courage to do what she did
but if you are able to answer tough questions, it only ends up reinforcing your beliefs. That is why she does it, and the chance to reach out and changes even one person's mind.

104. Preaching to the choir only gets you so far
though judging by the repug type responses here maybe preaching to the Third Wayers is necessary too.

139. Because some of her fans may be among them and she may persuade someone?
Pastors may find it easy, even fun, to preach to the choir, but they don't win many new converts if their choir members are the only ones to whom they preach.

132. Brava to Ms. Hannah!
You got repugs and some dinos who want total deregulation. We've got people in NOLA who have lost their livelihoods, families that are monetarily devastated from the BP oil spill and an ongoing environmental nightmare in the gulf. If the media doesn't report it, does it still exist?

One thing the corporate MSM won't dwell on is the environmental impact of other countries in regard to the global oil fat cats, like in Nigeria. If this deal goes through, with the attitude that the oil industry can do no wrong, we are as fekked as Nigeria.

156. I was flipping the dial and heard Michael Weiner "Savage"
say that Daryl Hannah looks like a man.

I simply can't believe that anybody would pay piece-of-human garbage Weiner to spew his bile on the airwaves.
