Video Released Of Rioters Shooting At Police

Police in Birmingham have released footage of people firing shots at lines of police officers during the riots.

The CCTV pictures also show the suspects aiming at a police helicopter.

In a press conference, Chief Constable Chris Sims from West Midlands Police said events on the night of August 9 were much more complex than just looting and rioting.

He said there had been a "concerted and organised attempt" to kill or injure police officers by a masked and hooded group of 30 to 40 people in the Newtown area of the city.

Why wasn't this in the news before? Usually, "Crowds shooting at police" is a very good "Man bites Dog" story. It's not something police would tell the press to sit on, either. Instead, at the time, police were announcing the use of rubber bullets or water canons on the demonstrators. Not something to do if people are shooting at you.

Walks like a body-builder. Again? Can't see what's around the hands raiser from the video and could be taken from anywhere. The context is hidden - on purpose. It's only seconds long with other stock film and a scripted speech to follow.

"11 shots were fired" "nobody was injured".

I don't know that I'd go so far as to say "fucking hooligans", I think there are reasons why some people riot and loot and others don't, in the big picture of things.

Students at boarding schools, and their parens, don't riot and loot ... because they have everything they want, socially, politically and materially.

People who have little to nothing and are finding themselves with less and less, well, only a tiny fraction of them riot and loot, but surely it isn't just genetic, the poor / visible minorities riot and loot, the rich / white don't ...

This was the hooligan element, no question. But there actually are reasons why the hooligan element comes from the poor and socially excluded segment of society.
