Boehner Plan Faces G.O.P. Resistance and Veto Threat
Source: New York Times

WASHINGTON — House Republican leaders Tuesday made increasingly frenzied pleas to their members to approve a plan to temporarily raise the nation’s debt ceiling, but passage seemed in growing doubt. The White House reiterated that it strongly opposed the bill and that President Obama’s advisers would recommend a veto should it somehow pass the House and Senate.

3. Why would Boehner put his caucus through a vote for a bill that will never pass?
The senate will vote against it and Obama would veto anyway. It's a waste of time.

11. Yea I think he's painted himself into a corner
I've thought it a dangerous game they have been playing from the very beginning. If they refuse to compromise every step of the way, essentially saying "My way or the highway" what do they do when opponents, on both sides opt for the highway.

The tough talk makes compromise with face saving impossible.

They'd rather take a political posture than find a real solution or do what is best for the country.

I sure hope the next election corrects this overreach. I fear it won't though.

10. "Political theater" = MASTURBATION
See, this is fun to watch:

1. The pluto/kleptocrats (Koch etc.) create the Teabaggers, as a way to re-brand the stupidest/most delusional on the Right.

2. Teabaggers get a *small* taste of power (due mostly to depressed voter turnout among people who SHOULD have known better), and proceed to enact horrible policies.

3. Corporate Kleptocrats (who will be harmed if "debt" ceiling is not raised) are unable to actually control the monster they themselves created and unleashed.

4. Teabaggers destroy U.S./global economy, and finally, totally discredit Right-wing idiocy once and for all.

To paraphrase a certain South Park episode: "Awk-waaaaard!" :)

4. UPDATE - RSC chair: Boehner doesn't have the votes for plan
from Politico:

Chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), says the votes aren't there for Speaker John Boehner to pass his debt-ceiling plan, unless he turns to Democrats for help.

“I am confident, as of this morning, that there were not 218 Republicans in support of the plan,” Jordan told reporters Tuesday when asked how many other House conservatives oppose the speaker’s plan.

Can we have the next act, please?

He may pick up some votes from the 25 fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats, but just 5 crossed the line last week to support Cut, Cap and Balance.

To pass a bill that will die in the Senate or get vetoed.
