WASHINGTON -- A wealthy California businesswoman is rebutting charges she led a scheme to evade U.S. export laws to provide high-tech paint for construction of a Pakistani nuclear plant.
Lawyers for Xun Wang, a 51-year-old entrepreneur, argued during a detention hearing Tuesday that her offense was "technical" in nature and not serious enough for her to be held without bond.
Federal prosecutors argued that Wang, a Chinese citizen who lives with her family in Hillsborough, Calif., was an extreme flight risk and should be denied bail. She has been charged with four felony counts.
