NY Gov. Cuomo signs gay marriage law
Source: AP

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed New York's gay marriage bill, starting what is expected to be a crush of gay weddings starting in 30 days.

The Democratic governor signed the measure shortly before midnight Friday, following up on a promise to put his name on the legislation as soon as he received it rather than wait the usual 10 days to sign it for it to become law.

New York lawmakers narrowly voted to legalize same-sex marriage, handing activists a breakthrough victory in the state where the gay rights movement was born.

New York will become the sixth state where gay couples can wed and the biggest by far.

1. And the wedding planners go wild!
The pride parade is going to be one helluva party. I hope there's some good online links to watch it live.

5. Most news stories that break on Friday lose some traction by Monday.
I'm sure that on Monday CNN will cover it and MSNBC will really cover it, but after that some other new news will take over the 24/7 news cycle.

14. NY Becomes 6th State to Strengthen Marriage! Woot!
(Not to be a booster, but Massachusetts was the first.)

With a divorce rate of over 50% and a virginity till marriage rate of about .009% (guesstimate), the biggest forward step marriage has had in decades is the struggle for equal human rights for all humans.

Here's hoping marriage (and justice) wins out in all 50 states.

Die, Jim Crow!

19. I wish they'd stop using 'Gay Marriage'
and use marriage equality instead. I wish they'd use equality instead of 'gay rights'.

It's all in the framing of the debate and language is so important.

Thanks for posting this Tx4obama

20. It is so much better when it's enacted by the normal political
processes rather than imposed by a court. It goes a long way enabling acceptance by the general population.
