Chavez 'recovering well' after operation
Recuperating president to return to Venezuela "within days", brother says, after undergoing surgery in Cuba.
Last Modified: 23 Jun 2011 06:55

Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan president, is recuperating well from surgery in Cuba and is expected to return home within 12 days, according to his brother.

~snip~
Elias Jaua, Venezuela's vice president, said Chavez was attending to his day-to-day government duties while recovering.

"He's signing documents for social security retirees and resources for the education ministry, reading reports,'' Jaua told Union Radio. "The president is following all current events in the country."

Chavez is expected to be back in the country in time to host a summit of Latin American leaders on July 5.

1. July 5, keep the date in mind

because that is when the hemispheric leaders will inaugurate CELAC, their OWN community of Latin American and Caribbean nations. It will be an alternate to the useless OAS that is based and has always been a lapdog to Washington.

CELAC will be different. The United States and Canada are left out.

CELAC's headquarters may be set up in Caracas.

That is sure to frost Hillary and company.

2. That's going to be a BIG date to remember. Wow. Thanks for the heads-up.
It should be more than casually interesting to see how this will go.

Highest hopes for CELAC. They NEED this.

3. Excellent, thank you for the reminder.
I am so glad they are consolidating their power this way as the threat from the Global Capitalists is always there, just waiting to destroy all the work they have done to get out from under the oppression.

The Ven. Wikileaks cables were very revealing and confirmed everything I and others have suspected for a long time. They HATE Chavez, mostly because they cannot control him, and because they view him as a threat to their goals in Latin America. They admitted in cables that he was 'very popular' in that region of the world, not just Venezuela and that alone, they believed made him 'very dangerous' to them.

Shocking to see the twisted thinking. I just don't understand it. Why not just engage in fair trade with other countries? We really have become the bad guys.

5. How sad that some political opportunists took the fact he had surgery there
(when we all know he had been traveling to different countries by the time he stopped in Cuba and got sick suddenly) as a chance to claim there was something underhanded about his having surgery in Cuba and not in Venezuela.

Very silly. They should be too embarrassed to resort to that stuff.

8. Doesn't look like he "got sick suddenly" while traveling, after all.
Nothing underhanded about it - but it was obvious from the beginning that there was a lot more to this than was told.

7. Imagine that. He survived a "socialist" hospital.
I thought they left their people to die in the streets.

At least that's what my Foxaholic sister claims

9. Chavez
Good news about Chavez. While he is a bit machista, he is a good soul and we really need him.

Even better news about CELAC! This is truly a different era in Latin America. God rest all of the souls who have struggled and died to move Latin America forward. It has been hard, but we are moving forward.
