White House launches new campaign to cut waste
Source: The Washington Post

The White House and congressional Republicans unveiled new proposals Monday to combat government waste, fraud and abuse — and at least some of the plans mean fewer Web sites with a .gov address.

The Obama administration said it plans to shutter or consolidate about a quarter of its 2,000 Web sites and is scrapping plans for new ones.

In a White House-produced video, President Obama noted that the government’s Web portfolio includes sites devoted to desert tortoises, polar animals and a quintet of U.S. Forest Service rangers who tour the country playing the fiddle.

“I’ll put their music on my iPod, but I’m not paying for their Web site, and there are hundreds of similar sites that we should consolidate or just get rid of,” Obama said.

14. So it's public service message websites
that are sucking up all the taxpayer revenue?

Really?

So cutting edge. You bold cost cutter... I am relieved to know you are vigilant and on the job.

I am just flabbergasted that this merited a mention in a Government funded Puff Piece Production and then again, in the the press.

20. I'd like to have that job
as a webmaster. Trillions and trillions of dollars that should go to roads and other infrastructure, used for setting up my "10 things I hate about Al Quida" blog.

Glad Obama is on the job taking down those sites that are ruining this country and stopping us from giving tax breaks to the CEO of Countrywide and Exxon.

God bless America

and... just so I don't flamed: :sarcasm:

17. The National Security budget...
Edited on Tue Jun-14-11 10:00 AM by FlyByNight
...is a good place to start. What is it, about a trillion dollars, annually (now)?

We hear this kind of talk, practically, every goddamn presidential term. Cutting fraud, waste and abuse, rinse, repeat. Sounds like a mantra now. (Regarding this and to be fair, I know what Pres. Obama can do is somewhat limited in scope; it just sounds annoying - 'tis all.)

There's a 5-sided elephant in the room and, practically, NO ONE within the Beltway can (or wants to) see it.

18. But...but....He just announced a brand NEW website!
It was one of his proposals to improve the economy in his latest speech!

http://www.alextimes.com/news/2011/jun/10/obama-pushes-public-private-partnerships/

Speaking at the city’s Northern Virginia Community College campus, the president called for the creation of standardized skill certifications in cooperation with the manufacturing industry....As well as the creation of nationwide certification standards, Obama also announced a new website, called “Pipeline,” pairing job listings with the required educational background.

Good fucking god, can we get to the important stuff, please?
