5 U.S. troops killed in Iraq (June 6)
Source: CBS/AP

BAGHDAD (AP) — The U.S. military says five American troops have been killed in central Iraq.

The military said in a brief statement that the five were killed on Monday. It gave no additional details about where the incident occurred or how the five died.

The military says the names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The Al Arabiya satellite network reported earlier that as many as six U.S. troops were killed and five more injured by a suicide bomber at the entrance of Camp al-Sharaf, which lies inside the fortified Green Zone in Baghdad. That report could not be immediately confirmed.

6. Their mortar attacks increase as they find out troops are moving outward,
during our religious holidays, and if something happens to one of the their leaders. Or just because.

My husband was part of a group that was closing down one of the bases in Iraq and saw this increase in attacks. Imagine looking over your shoulder, not knowing a peaceful moment as you try to fulfill the mission you've been assigned to (which is basically everyone over there, but then it gets worse during times like this).

Thinking of the friends and families of these 5 servicemembers.
