Teen Who Challenged Bachmann To Debate Receiving Threats
Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- A New Jersey teenager says she's received threats since challenging U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann to a debate over the Constitution.

Ann Myers challenged the tea party favorite in a letter dated April 29. After it started getting media attention last weekend, commenters on tea party websites have threatened to publish her home address and some have threatened violence.

The 16-year-old from Cherry Hill says several commenters have called her a "whore."

Her father, Wayne, says he's concerned for his daughter's safety.

Now the Bozo's lunatic fringe are using threat to keep the debate from happening. Bachmann is crazy loose cannon. I'll put my seven year grandson on the podium to debate her on history. He'll clean her clock as well. Enough said.

112. They're afraid of a 16 year old! Run away, batshit Bachmann, run away!!!
When your bullshit is so thinly veiled that a 16-year-old can see through it (and you feel threatened by her) then you should just slink off into the shadows and SHUT YOUR MOUTH from here on out.

Are you listening Batshit Bachmann???

Guy comes back and says, "Doc, it's still orange!" Doctor asks him, "May I ask you a, uh, personal question? Have you been... doing... anything unusual lately?"

Guy says, "Naw. Just watchin' some Sarah Palin campaign videos and eatin' Chee-tos". :P

Edited on Fri May-20-11 11:23 AM by Lionessa
Seriously, as much as I like to bash neo-cons of all stripes, the article should at least be able to tell us something about the posters of those threats on the teaparty websites, were they new posters or long term, were they removed by the site admins or left to set till required to be taken down, or are they still there?

It makes no sense why anyone would threaten over a request for a debate. Whereas, for example, the atheist young man who actually forced a change on religious neo-cons being threatened is entirely believeable.

62. I'm surrounded by them in AZ, as well.
Though the ones that I "know" wouldn't threaten this young lady, I've seen and heard enough from comments in local papers to not take threats lightly. About 6 months ago, some ass that claimed to live in my town was looking for a new revolution. Said he was going to start shooting Liberals at random just to "thin the herd".

While it "may" be an empty threat, he also claimed to be part of a local militia and claimed they were preparing for a government takeover. And, yes, I did report the comment.

76. No, but being surrounded by them, I don't see any of them in their usual
anger mode about this, they seem more sardonic or sarcastic or even snottily humored, but not heated or angry in anyway, like they usually get when threats are made. Yes, I agree those I know wouldn't actually do anything, but they talk a certain way anyway, this time that level of aggressive talk is simply not evident.

I'm not saying it should be ignored, though it seems like the local police there are, I'm just saying I'm a bit suspect about it.

95. Possibly, and there are other possibilities too, that's my point, we have no "real"
data or info to make an informed judgement or even a partially informed judgement. All we have is a VERY short article with no back up whatsoever. Could be made up, could be that the teaparty sites did the right thing (if it was true) and immediately deleted, it could be it was trolls trying to cause trouble (right/left, repub/dem, lib/con all have their troll elements that like to pretend to be something they're not) and so on.

It's just not believable to me. The teen would've had to somehow offend and she didn't so none of this seems believable even for the fringe of the teaparty. It does seem believable that some others want us to believe it's teabaggers, and gets that the extreme dislike we have for them will override the possibility of erroneous (caused by being incomplete) reporting.

98. I wouldn't call any of them my buddies, and I don't have a clue.
I simply overhear a lot of crap pretty much everywhere one might go throughout a days errands and such. My daughter is finally sick of Idaho, I've been ready to leave for about five years, but just couldn't leave her here alone, just couldn't do it. She has a year left for her masters, during that time I'm looking to where we will move. Actually just got back from a drive trip through New Mexico, skipped through Arizona, and checked California. Weather discounts much of the rest of the liberal/progressive world as humidity and lots of snow/cold are not welcome. New Mexico won't work because of the blowing dust for 3 months of the year, which will ruin the equipment I use to make a living, and California has too many requirements, adding up to too much up front money I don't have.

Next month, as she can afford to pay the gas and such for another trip (she's still gainfully employed, I'm not and haven't been for a while though I admit I sort of lost interest in succeeding here in Idaho about 18 months ago after an incident with a neocon client who won't pay) I will scope out Portland, Oregon where we lived a couple decades ago and up through Seattle. If not there, I'll be at a loss as to where to try next.

Please do not attempt to paint me as a troll or a buddy of neo-cons whatever their stripes. If you've had to live amongst them for as long as I have and watch them slide into deeper and deeper regressive social, religious, and political craziness, you'd better understand the offensiveness you've presented by suggesting such.

I've seen it up close and violent, so much it was traumatizing me and my family. We left at a financial loss, it was like living in hell. I've never regretted moving.

I would not live among them if I had another way. Sorry if my question rubbed you the wrong way and I am glad to hear you are on the road to leaving those deadbeats. They won't change.

102. At no point have I discounted their dangerous qualities, I simply question
the shallow and short reporting done here. And compared to other instances where threats have been reported, I've not noticed the same attitudinal issues that I saw on those other occurrences where I could clearly see that if the "normal" nutjobs were as up in arms as I saw, then the fringe nutjobs would surely be threatening. The "normal" I see over this, does not incline me to believe entirely that is the case IN THIS CASE. I simply would like to see more data.

That being said, my dislike of neo-cons of all stripes is so strong and deeply rooted, that I don't need to add questionable items to stoke it. And if I catch myself doing that, as I would have to do in this case, I'd see a reflection of a nutjob of the likes that I am trying to get away from.

107. Really
How stupid do you have to be to refer to yourselves as "teabaggers" then get pissed off when people are call you "teabaggers" after you find out what it means?

This is part and parcel of the wholesale cultural shift the far right wing and their benefactors have been orchestrating in earnest since that bastard Ronald Wilson Reagan started the process of destroying the American working class.

40. Not much has changed in 50 years......
except we didn't have these "tubes" then.
I wrote a 2 sentence letter to the editor in a major newspaper.
I was 19 and in college. I received so many death threats and
nasty letters, my landlady became concerned they might burn
the house. Wish I had kept all those letters! Most were
from churches and religious organizations.
How terrible that these nutjobs would turn on a 16 year old.
No, not a lot of change in 50 years!

53. Those that are threatening are like Brown Shirts
Think about it, it's getting worse. Anytime anyone challanges the ignorant Bachman, Palin, Gingrich and a slew of others they believe that the masses do not have the right to question them. They get defensive and dangerous. They make threats, they are in fact trying to destroy the democratic process. This is why the Republicans are so dangerous. Wisconsin, TX and others states prove this over and over again, there is no dialogue when they shove through laws now.

it's her fault for provoking the right wingers: she should have known better than to offend them by suggesting theirs are not the only opinions worth voicing. What exactly is the deifference between this case and the HS boy in LA who took an actual constitutional stand against prevailing opinion? Not one single post here is against the minor - on the thread about him roughly 25% were. I guess when political and religious sensibilities conflict, the religious side wins.

the words "slut" and "whore" always seem to get flung about? Is it misogyny, our puritanical roots or just a lack of originality? Very promiscuous men in the public eye don't get called such things.

Empty threats, and idle promises.

116. Al Franken should offer to "play the part of Bachmann" in the debate
"Myers says the Minnesota congresswoman misstates or distorts facts about the Constitution. Bachmann's office told The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill that it won't respond to the debate challenge."

http://www.kare11.com/news/article/923863/14/Teen-who-challenged-Bachmann-to-debate-receiving-threats

No problem. Al is Senator from Minnesota, and represents Ms. Bachmann's state in the Senate. He could certainly "represent" her views accurately and fairly in a debate with a teenager, since she can't/won't herself.

..and lurkers, it's cowardly to call a teenaged girl a whore under any circumstance. Is that how your mothers raised you? Is that what your ministers told you was right?

They didn't even know what "tea-bagging" slang was when they started it.
If you admit being a tea partier, that tells me to ignore anything you have to say.
Michele Bachmann is a joke, and these folks are the yell the loudest and make threats if not getting their way, crowd, I don't think civility is in their vocabulary.
Challenge the whole lot of them on the Constitution, not just Bachmann.
