Trump announces he will not run for president
Edited on Mon May-16-11 12:02 PM by onehandle
Source: AP

Donald Trump announced Monday that he will not be a 2012 presidential candidate.

The real estate mogul noted in a statement that he has been unofficially campaigning for the past several months, but has determined politics is not his first priority. "Business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector," Trump said.

Trump made clear he's not bowing out because of his perceived tough odds in the GOP primary or otherwise, saying: "I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election."

Trump on Monday promised supporters he would continue to voice his opinions "loudly" and "shape our politicians' thoughts."

16. Business is his "greatest passion".
I find that hard to believe if he's had three bankruptcies. It doesn't sound like he's all that good at it. Best he stick to the TV shows.

28. Bankruptcy for him not the same as for you and me
I remember when he went bankrupt the first time in the 90s.

He had to cut his personal spending down to $50,000 per month.

The guy was never in it, only promoting himself ... which he is brilliant at doing.

13. I think is was Lawerance O'Donnell who called May 17th.
He pointed out that's when the fall schedule would be announced, and he said that's when Trump would be snapped back to reality (shows).

10. He declaration of non-candidacy comes with a victory lap
This guy is totally intolerable. I hope the media turns their back on him now that he should be politically irrelevant. Why should his political opinions be revered when he claims he isn't a contender? He "doesn't want to leave the public sector", so beside the point that he thinks making money is more important than serving his country, he want it both ways. He wants to tell everyone how to run the government without getting his hands dirty.

Obama could have stayed in the public sector if he wanted and had a promising career ahead of him, including a possible nomination as the first black person on the Supreme Court. (I don't count Thomas as a black man.)

Everytime someone speaks of an African American Supreme, the name Thomas comes up. Probably because he passes conservative muster.

Matter of fact, they should use Trump in Psych training courses when the topic turns to narcissistic personality disorder.

26. I was just using him in class the other day as the difference between new money and old money
When Forbes puts out their list of richest Americans, old money people call and ask to have their name taken off or say they don't have as much as the article claims (not out of humility but a pragmatic desire to avoid taxes and public ire) but Trump calls and asks why his name and wealth aren't higher.

Likewise with his boorish habit of putting his name on everything he does.

He also acts like a self-made man when he got his start with a nice chunk of change from dad who was already wealthy.

He is probably second only to Baby Bush is proving that the very wealthy are not superior to the rest of us intellectually, morally, or any other way.

36. The Donald IS a self-made man!
His is a classic riches to rags to riches to rags to riches to rags to riches to rags to comfortable middle-class existence story. He's sitting on what, 20-to-one leverage in his various real estate and gambling ventures?

There are two realities to Trump's presidential run-that-never-was. First, Donald Trump is EXTREMELY unlikable. People vote for people they like, and no one likes Donald Trump. The second is, the Republicans are looking for an absolutely sin-free candidate, and The Donald is a major player in the sin industry.

that would mean we all get to climb through your tax records and you know you can't tolerate that level of scrutiny.

Besides, if you can't take a little good humored joking at your expense, then you don't have the temperament to be president.

29. donald is only in it for the press. he will do anything
to get his name in the papers.

he's laughing all the way to bank with his cheaply produced, lowest common denominator un-reality show that is bad for Union actors and writers, etc...

he's not running, never planned on running, and doesn't have all the money people think he does.
no one would give him any to run, either....or at least not enough.

he's a big windbag.
