Hillary Clinton's Book Sales Top 1 Million (in One Month)

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has sold more than 1 million copies of her memoir "Living History," in almost exactly a month.

That announcement came Wednesday from her publisher, Simon and Schuster. The company is pleased at what it calls the book's "unprecedented sales levels." The company ordered 1 million copies for the first printing, an extraordinarily high number for a nonfiction book.

"Living History" hit stores June 9 amid a wave of publicity and promotional appearances by the former first lady. About 200,000 of those copies were sold in the first day alone. ---

A good question CNN. Who can these people be? Certainly not people you cater towards. All we want is truthful journalism. No More No Less.

4. Can't wait to see the shoe-eating!
That will be an event.

My Mom gave me the book for my birthday. When she went to pay for the book, the clerk told her how lucky she was. When she asked why, he told her that she had found a signed copy of the book! She is so lucky! Anyway, she gave it to me for my birthday. I have just started to read it, and it is very good. I especially love the stories about her family.

5. Have you noticed how spiteful and dismissive the pundits are?
James Warren, hardly a right-winger, made a point of saying that Hillary-bashers could take comfort in the fact that J.K. Rowling's latest would knock Hillary's book off the top of the list. Uh, James, they aren't even in the same category in best-sellers.

And Patrick Buchanan made some whiney remark about Ann Coulter's latest used toilet paper -- oh, sorry, I meant BOOK -- was runnning Hillary off Amazon.com. Hey, Pat, Hillary gets to be in the history books and the record books. Coulter won't even rate "Jeopardy!" or Trivial Pursuit.

11. Actually, it sounds like he feels sorry for the Hillary-bashers
like they're grasping at straws. In other words, if it weren't for Harry Potter the wingnuts would be even more apoplectic. BTW, HIllary still beats Anthrax on www.barnesandnoble.com

6. Read it and weep Ms Annie
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/13/books/bestseller/0713besthardnonfiction.html

If you notice, some of the books have a (+) next to their name including TREASON by Ann Coulter, OFF WITH THEIR HEADS by Dick Morris, DERELICTION OF DUTY by Robert (Buzz) Patterson (which are the only 3 in the NYTimes top 30 that have this mark).

This is what that little comment denotes:

Rankings reflect sales, for the week ending June 28, at almost 4,000 bookstores plus wholesalers serving 50,000 other retailers (gift shops, department stores, newsstands, supermarkets), statistically weighted to represent all such outlets nationwide. An asterisk (*) indicates that a book's sales are barely distinguishable from those of the book above. A dagger (+) indicates that some bookstores report receiving bulk orders.

So my question is, Annie COULDN'T outsell Hillary, but how high on that list would she be if some moneybag neo-con wasn't out there ordering her book in bulk quantities???

14. I'm sure it is Annthrax herself paying for those bulk orders.
This has no doubt been presented by those orchestrating and promoting the right wing authors as a cost of doing business, a marketing technique. They are probably quite selective as to which stores they make bulk orders from, so as to influence the store's retail presentation. They may even have a deal with the publisher to buy them back for redistribution. Since the retailer no doubt offers a deep discount for the bulk order, the net cost would only be the retailer's discounted margin.

At some point, some industrious journalist will find out exactly how this is working and have a very nice scoop on a story that will probably make the front pages and will hopefully kill this little manipulative ruse.

10. I'll make that one million and one
I'm just getting around to buying mine. Have been too busy but I knew she would hit the million even without my purchase.

The American Politics Journal has been collecting bow ties for Tucker to eat too. I bet the weasel weasels out on his bet. He'll give us some lame doctor's excuse or something.

21. Not only were both copies of Treason sold out
but they move so fast that they're already showing up in the used bookstore.

(Based on a true story: I was poking around the used bookstore on Saturday and came across two copies of Treason.)

27. I wonder how the overseas sales of Treason are going?
Ann's market is very limited, and the reviews by reputable reviewers are horrible.

25. Serious question...
How WOULD one go about eating a shoe?

Let's say it has to be a shoe actually worn by the eater (Tucker) at some point in time. So a mens shoe, maybe size 10.

Is one type more edible than another? Would all leather be the best choice, as long boiling in sauce might soften it to edibility? Or should one choose something thats all rubber or other non-digestible synthetics, so it can be chopped up fine and pass through ones system without causing many problems.

Given the fact that, at this point, Tucker must eat shoe or lose face, what would be his best approach? Honestly? What's the best way to truly and actually eat a shoe?
