Cheney Took in $178,437 from Halliburton in 2003
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=politicsNews&storyID=4816533

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney received $178,437 in deferred pay last year from Halliburton, the Texas oil-field services company he once headed that has received billion-dollar government contracts in Iraq.

The White House on Tuesday released the 2003 income tax returns for both Cheney and his wife, Lynne, and President Bush and his wife, Laura.

Cheney's office said the income from Halliburton was in no way linked to the financial health of the company, a subsidiary of which is under investigation for possibly overcharging the U.S military for fuel supplies in Iraq.

<snip>

The Cheneys reported taxable income of $813,226 in 2003. They paid $258,779 in taxes in withholding and estimated tax payments, but only owed $253,067 and thus were eligible for a $5,712 refund but decided to apply that to their 2004 taxes.

1. I wonder how much his stock options are worth now?
That seems like a mere pittance for all this murder and mayhem.

2. Yeah, and how much was made by family trusts?
and all sorts of private money hiding schematics?

I am sooooooooo sure that a guy making almost a million dollars is going to pay 25% of it in taxes. The only thing showing up on his tax return ARE taxable income items (and thus impossible to hide). The rest of the loot is skirted away in special finacial arrangement trusts and the such.

Yeah...cheney didn't benefit ONE CENT in all those tax cuts? uh hum.

3. I'm guessing those 2004 taxes are going to be a sight to be held
if he got a refund this year and is applying it to his '04 bill. Hmmm, a smart man doesn't leave 5k just laying around... :tinfoilhat:

4. Well...He paid taxes on it...FINALLY!

"deferred compensation" What a load of horseshit designed to get him out paying taxes...

I look at it like this. The outfit I work for pays me just under what would kick me into a higher tax bracket, then after I leave the company and start working for "chump change" (like being VP of the US of A) they start sending me cheques (not the whole amount, mind you) until what they held back is all paid. And they dribble THAT in amounts gauged to not boost me into a higher tax bracket...

Fucker. Why doesn't he just incorporate as "TinMan Crash-cart, Inc." with world offices at the Mailboxes+ in Curacao?

BTW, his tax REFUND would keep me flush for 2 months.

8. CHENEY LIES AGAIN
"Since I left Halliburton to become George Bush's vice president, I've severed all my ties with the company, gotten rid of all my financial interest. I have no financial interest in Halliburton of any kind and haven't had, now, for over three years."- Cheney on Meet the Press, 9/14/03

9. not a bad return on their investment
Cheney was pre-paid to deliver Iraq into Halliburton's hands. Now they have billions in no-bid, no-oversight contracts that are tax free, sheltered from war-profiteering clauses. And never forget that Cheney and Halliburton were trading with Iraq in 1998 in contravention to the sanctions. Cheney helped Saddam buy the bullets that were used on our troops.

11. I have a question
"Cheney's office said the income from Halliburton was in no way linked to the financial health of the company."

If this is true, what if Halliburton goes bankrupt....do they still have to pay him? If not, doesn't that constitute Cheney having a "financial interest" in the company?

13. Now we know why Reader's Digest kisses right wing ass so much
The Cheneys' income also includes Mrs. Cheney's income from work at the American Enterprise Institute, a Washington-based think tank, and compensation from her service on the Reader's Digest board of directors in 2003.

14. That Halliburton only paid a measly $178,437 is appalling: he was surely
worth a hundred times that paltry sum and even more. Hopefully the remuneration he receives in the future will adequately compensate him for the full value of services rendered.
