Republican ultrasound bill puts new restrictions on abortion
Michigan only latest state for such a bill
By Eartha Jane Melzer
04.25.11 | 8:22 am

State Senator David Robertson (R-Grand Blanc Twp.) has introduced a bill that would require doctors to offer keepsake ultrasound photos to women who are seeking abortions.

The bill requires that doctors perform an ultrasound, offer a description of the ultrasound image, an opportunity to listen to the heartbeat of the embryo or fetus, and a hard copy of the image.

All of this is to be done at least two hours before the abortion procedure and women would be required to sign a statement acknowledging that these offers had been made.

Robertson did not return a call to talk about the bill, but both those who support the bill and those who oppose it agree that its intent is to dissuade women from having abortions.

7. The proble with this bill is that it goes with the assumption that women are dumb....
and easily lead.

"We just gotta show you some pictures and we'll change your minds. Don't you worry."

I think that if a woman has made the choice, she knows what she's in for. She's not some simpleton who looks at a picture and says, "Oh yeah. Never mind."

8. This is Sick
First post, please excuse my Newbishness.

This is an invasion of privacy, a waste of money, all done either to comply with some Christfag's screwed-up morals, or perhaps George Soros is profiting off these ultrasounds (He funded the TSA gropings and Naked Body Scanners), or who the fuck knows.

12. Talk about adding insult to injury. Not only do the Rethugs want to
compel the woman to all types of coercive practices before she can exercise her CONSTITUIONAL RIGHT to choice - in addition, they are placing an additional financial burden on her. The cost of an ultrasound can be as high as $300.

14. I volunteer as a clinic escort for PP. I can say without equivocation, that these women have made

up their minds by the time they go into the clinic. I have never seen a woman change her mind. This is a very traumatic moment for a woman, and yet by and large they are quite adamant about getting an abortion.

15. What's next? Will their names be added to a terrorist watch list? Or will they be subject to..
Future prosecutions for murder when the laws get to the point they have in some states?

Don't put anything past these fascists.

And don't think that this intrusion into medical matters over an unpopular decision, like condemnation of unpopular people, will stop there. They're already forcing things on women that can harm their future health and ability to have children that are entering the USA from south of the border.

We have people cheering transhumanism as if it's no big deal to have government or corporations invading the human body. Of course in that case, it'll be 'for their own good.'

This will be called the same and be accepted, unless we can make the numbers in legislatures to stop these theocrats.

17. If I was a woman ....
If I was a woman with a pain in my gut, I would go get one of these free ultrasounds. I'm not talking about this hypothetical woman being pregnant, I'm talking about getting a free ultrasound medical procedure courtesy of the Big Government Lovers (AKA America Haters) in the GOP.

22. Figured it was free
I figured it was free since they're trying to "encourage" women to do what they want, rather than what the woman wants.

In any case, of course, once that baby is born it's on its own, according to GOP ideals.

21. First they would be required to sign a statement... just wait, they (R) would find a way
to arrest the woman for murder. :puke:
