U.S. House Republicans Vote to Cancel $1 Billion in Housing Aid
Source: Bloomberg

The U.S. House voted 242-182 along party lines to cancel an Obama administration program to aid communities hit by foreclosures and abandoned properties.

“This is a bad giveaway,” Representative Gary Miller, a California Republican and sponsor of the legislation, said today during a debate on the bill.

The vote would eliminate the Neighborhood Stabilization Program and rescind $1 billion from the fund, which helps local governments redevelop blighted communities. President Barack Obama has said he would veto the legislation.

Today’s vote was the third of four planned to cut funding for Obama’s efforts to prevent foreclosures and aid communities most affected by them.

7. Look at it this way.
Every time they cut shit, they piss SOMEBODY off. Eventually, they will have pissed off just about EVERYBODY. Then hopefully NOBODY will vote for them!

8. This is unbelievable
I do fundraising for a men's shelter in Pennsylvania. We need to turn away more than 4 people for every one person we can serve. We get about $50,000 a year from the Community Block Grant program that they're trying to eliminate, and without that money we won't be able to continue. It's just incredible that at a time when more an more people are out of work and out of options, the republicans are fighting to keep people from getting the crumbs that fall from the table. No humanitarian feelings whatsoever.
