GOP Sen: Bush Hasn't Made Case For Liberia Intervention
WASHINGTON (AP)

The Republican chairman of the U.S. Senate Armed Services committee said Friday the Bush administration has yet to make the case for sending U.S. troops into Liberia either to Congress or to the American people.

"If I were asked today what should be done, I would simply say I do not have the facts to make an informed decision," Sen. John Warner of Virginia said. "I hope in the executive branch there are those who do have sufficient facts to make an informed decision."

Warner spoke on the Senate floor hours after the Pentagon canceled plans to give his committee a private briefing on Liberia. Warner said that in his 25 years in the Senate, "I'm not sure I know of a precedent of that type of abrupt cancellation." ---

But he questioned whether it meets the standard for U.S. military involvement after the Vietnam War, the so-called "Powell doctrine" set forth by Secretary of State Colin Powell when he was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Persian Gulf War.

Those standards say military force should be in response to a clear threat, have public support, involve the use of overwhelming force and include a clear exit strategy.

1. Well
The Iraqi invasion didn't meet any of the three elements of the so-called Powell Doctrine, either. Didn't stop the boy king from playing with his soldiers.

5. Warner is a neo-con front man
I think its likely that behind the scenes the pentagon is instructing Warner to oppose the Liberia operation. They cant spare the troops and it just distracts from their PNAC agenda.

Warner is one of the phoniest wind-bags in the senate.

10. The foul-breathed Warner, 'seen this bureaucrat on C-SPAN ...
shutting up the sainted Senator Robert Byrd. Elbowing our hero off the podium, making some superfluous reference to his UK background. "Oh, yes," Senator Byrd replied, "We're all aware of your anglophilic leanings." At which the moronic Edwards launched into rote recitation of some inbred tory geneology.

Taxpayers aghast at the monsters' program, fatcats go off on holiday, there to associate strictly with like-stationed paranoids. Reinvigorating together, reminded in their rituals that their hold on believers' minds springs from number of kills, not whose side takes the damage.

"Only losers fixate on 'winning,'" they remind one another. "Our options are winning -- and winning larger." The war machine's blood-choked song rambles on: It's about the empire, stupid.

6. But what about the mass graves????

7. The asshole rethugs
only want military action against non-whites for the benefit of whites or for the detriment to other non-whites.

-Afghanistan was against non-whites for the revenge of whites, and now as it seems, for the detriment of non-whites
-Iraq was against non-whites for the benefit of whites.
-Liberia would be against non-whites for the benefit of non-whites.

There is no imaginable reason why they would ever want to help anyone who isn't white, especially with military force.

9. Warner is a dik
Bush is not going to send troops into Liberia. And Warner knows it. Its all bluff and bluster. Ain't no money in it like with Iraq. Or votes. This is really just another puff piece trying to make the Republicans look conscientious.
