War Support Drops; Bush, Kerry in Dead Heat (New Gallup Has Bush up 4)
Gallup once again fails to mirror the results of any other polling organization. Hmmm...

PRINCETON, NJ -- A new Gallup survey finds a significant worsening of Americans' attitudes about the war in Iraq, with a large majority now saying that things are going badly in the war and nearly 3 in 10 willing to withdraw all troops from the country. The poll also shows that Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and President George W. Bush are essentially tied in the presidential contest, with Kerry enjoying a two-point lead among registered voters, and Bush a three-point lead among likely voters -- both leads within the poll's margin of error. Bush's approval rating of 52% is not much changed from the 53% he received two weeks ago.

The poll, conducted April 5-8, shows that 64% of Americans believe things in Iraq are going either "very badly" (33%) or "moderately badly" (31%) for the United States, up from 43% who felt that way a month ago. Just 35% believe things are going either "very well" or "moderately well," down from 55% in March.

1. We have gone over this many times before. Gallup CANNOT....
be trusted. It is the only poll that shows Bush above 50%. Even
Faux "News" has the "Glorious Leader" at 48%.

2. On the other hand it has 64% of Americans
saying that the war is going badly, up 21 percentage points in only a month. And fully 28% of Americans now want to withdraw all US troops immediatly. I personally think that's nuts - but it shows a dramatic trend in public opinion that's bound to come back to hurt Bush.

5. I took a poll in my house
It was Kerry 120 and Bush 0. I did count the cat and dog so it may be skewed towards smirky.

7. In light of recent events, I don't think anyone really believes Bush
has an above 50% approval rating. Gallup is clearly a 'buy-a -poll' type of outfit. As far as I'm concerned, their credibility is shot.

If the election were held tomorrow, I would'nt be surprised if John Kerry won by ten points.

I would say the next reliable polls out will show Bush only in the high 30's aprroval rating. The SOB does'nt deserve even that!

8. Gallup skews conservative by a fairly fixed amount

Their numbers are just about always 3%-5% farther in favor of conservatives and/or Republicans than actual ballot box results and polling results by better outfits. For a while in '02 and '03 they skewed 7% or 8% more conservative than anyone respectable.

The only reason I can think of as to why Gallup doesn't fix up things is that it pays better.
