Some GOP senators say bill goes too far (Ohio)
Source: Columbus Dispatch

A bill making major changes to state collective-bargaining law is not a slam-dunk to pass the Senate in its current form.

The Dispatch talked to seven Republican senators this week who either would not commit support or expressed varying levels of discomfort with Senate Bill 5, which would eliminate collective bargaining for state workers, take away binding arbitration for police and firefighters, and limit the bargaining power of teachers and other local workers.

Republicans hold a 23-10 majority and need 17 votes to pass a bill. Democrats are expected to unanimously oppose it.

"While there is much in the bill I think is good, there are some things I think are decidedly a bridge too far," said Sen. Bill Seitz, R-Cincinnati. He said the bill gives management too much power.

2. I think
That republicans all over the country better think twice before going along with this kind of BS! Republicans want to break the unions, there is no doubt about it, and they "think" they can do it and still get support from voters! The must be pretty damned crazy if they think there are no republicans in the unions, or that people don't care about their teachers, firemen, police, and other municipal employees!

3. They will drop the parts that target police and firefighters
then they will all line up behind this. The populace will not stand for anything that even hints at an assault on military, police, or firefighters because they put their lives on the line. It also helps that they are not viewed as political active so they don't tend to upset people.

4. I'm sure repugs' 'discomfort' won't stop them
from voting for this bill. "I'm going to vote for it, but it really makes me uncomfortable."
