McConnell says Obama agenda is `over'
Source: Associated Pres

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell declared Saturday that President Barack Obama's legislative agenda is "over," but said GOP lawmakers are willing to work with the White House to do what they "think is right for America."

In a speech Saturday night to a GOP crowd in his hometown, the Kentucky Republican derided Obama for performing "Clintonian back flips" to portray himself as a moderate, but said it's yet to be seen whether the new tone is "rhetoric or reality."

25. I don't know about that.. See "Eat our lunch" comment.
Edited on Sun Feb-13-11 08:55 AM by CBHagman
I often hear declarations that the GOP is on the rise, and the media of course will choose a theme and then run with it, depicting things in black-and-white terms -- voter anger, tea party, blah, blah, blah. But the GOP won the House in a midterm, in which the party in power usually loses seats, and they did not win the Senate -- where, coincidentally, McConnell is minority leader. Minority.

Anyway, here's the "Eat our lunch" part:

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/134719-graham-gop-to-blame-for-capitulationof-dramatic-proportions-in-lame-duck

"capitulation ... of dramatic proportions" to Democrats and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) in the lame-duck Congress.

Graham said Republicans have no one to blame but themselves for allowing ratification of the New START Treaty and other legislation in the period before new lawmakers are sworn in in January.

"When it's all going to be said and done, Harry Reid has eaten our lunch," Graham said on Fox News radio. "This has been a capitulation in two weeks of dramatic proportions of policies that wouldn't have passed in the new Congress."

Well, that was last Congress, and now McConnell's beating his chest. But he was already beating his chest last fall, telling the Heritage Foundation (or one of the other think tanks) that the Republicans' top priority was seeing to it Obama was a one-term president (Notice that he didn't say jobs).

As for how this term sorts out, we don't know yet. We've already found the House GOP doesn't always vote in lockstep, so it'll be interesting to see where it goes from here.

3. LOL. Ok, Mitch. The McConnell Era has Begun!!!
Well, I suppose it is a good thing that President Obama got enough legislative accomplishments passed during his first two years to fill up one or even two terms.

Now, the Executive Branch needs to just implement them (which they can although the Republicans are going to make it as difficult as possible) such as set up the Health Care Exchanges and implementing the ACA reforms, setting up the Consumer Protection Bureau, using the EPA to regulate greenhouse gases, etc.

4. What "Obama agenda?" So far, all I've seen is Obama following the GOP agenda and then some.
Since this statement refers to some fantasy world where Obama isn't the conservative he's proven himself to be, I presume this non-sequitur is intended to please the 'baggers.

9. Exactly. We all know the republicans have always had agenda
to do all those things. Like Elizabeth Warren and Consumer Protection Agency? Pure right wing fantasy.
And for years they have longed to get some health care reform so that insurance companies would have to spend 85% of premiums on patient care and cut out those annual and lifetime limits on patient care and all that jazz. They especially wanted to expand Medicaid eligibility
And the GOP has been furious about pay inequality between males and females and felt just horrible for what Lilly Ledbetter had gone through
Oh and the GOP longing to increase Pell grants and cut banks out of financial aid? Obama was their man

Well I could go on but you are so right that everything he has done is straight from GOP agenda and we talk straight because we don't believe in hyperbole here

15. Nice try
Yup, the banks, insurance companies, the chamber, and the top 2 percent are all quivering like crazy right now, wondering when our leader's iron fist will come crashing down on them again. Oooh. Hey, at least they're all on the same page and looking forward, not back.

29. I wouldn't say that picking up six Senate seats is a "loss." He has more than enough votes
to sustain a filibuster on almost anything. Couple that with the GOP majority in the House and they really do have the ability to block any legislative initiative that President Obama puts forward. We might not like it, but it's a fact.

But he went in to the election believing that he would come out Senate Leader and failed.

That's why he's a bigger dick than ever.

18. I wonder what a government would be like
if it wasnt full of liars, swindlers and corrupt fools. seriously...think about it. Imagine a government where serious, thoughtful debate occurred. Facts were provided and those facts helped drive good and decent legislation. Where the main objective was to help the people and not the CorpoRats. People coming together to help the people. Imagine.

McConnell is the poster weasel for a failed and broken system where the only concern for those in positions of power is maintaining that position. And they do that by giving the CorpoRats anything they want. These people are beyond disgusting.
