Anderson Cooper attacked in Tahrir square during Cairo protests

CNN anchor and reporter, Anderson Cooper, was attacked in Cairo, Wednesday.

Cooper and his team were walking in Tahrir square through a large crowd of Mubarak supporters when the scene turned ugly. The crowd had let him walk for several minutes into the square when one man leaped out of the crowd, screaming, and attempted to grab the camera.

<snip>

Cooper can be heard in video saying "I've been hit now, like, ten times," and "the Egyptian soldiers are doing nothing."

In the video, crowds can be seen running towards Cooper's team several times as they attempted to exit the square. When the team began to run, they were instructed by a few friendly Egyptians to walk, or else it would be interpreted as encouragement to the violent crowd.

1. There was similar footage of Richard Engel, although I don't think he and his
crew were physically attacked.

Both said they were definitely the 'gangs'.

2. The pro-Mubarakites targeted all non-state reporters, and at about the same time.
Catch the "First Amendment Solution" segment of Rachel's show from earlier today, if you can. An outstanding commentary on the need for Mubarak to control the media before the bloodletting began, and how he failed in his purpose.

4.  Anderson Cooper Attacked Again In Egypt
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/03/anderson-cooper-car-attacked-egypt_n_818170.html

Anderson Cooper has been attacked for the second day in a row in Egypt. On Thursday, Cooper tweeted: "Situation on ground in #egypt very tense. Vehicle I was in attacked. My window smashed. All ok."

Cooper was attacked by pro-Mubarak mobs on Wednesday, and was punched at least ten times. Journalists have become targets as the violence in Egypt escalates; dozens have been detained by the army and some have been beaten by government supporters.
