ElBaradei says Mubarak must leave office "today"
Source: Reuters

Egyptian opposition figure Mohamed ElBaradei said on Sunday that President Hosni Mubarak must leave office today to make way for a national unity government.

"It is loud and clear from everybody in Egypt that Mubarak has to leave today," ElBaradei said in an interview aired on CNN. "He needs to leave today ... to be followed by a smooth transition (to) a national unity government to be followed by all the measures set in place for a free and fair election."

ElBaradei also said U.S. policy in Egypt was "losing credibility."

1. He said this directly to Christiane this morning.
He said, brilliantly, that the idea of asking a dictator to reform democratically
is an oxymoron. Mubarak must leave today!

6. They have elections coming up, ElBaradei can run in them and then let it be determined if the people
of Egypt want him to be their leader. Right now, to me he looks like he is trying to stage a coup and anoint himself the new leader.

7. I wouldn't go that far.
But I agree, I'd like to see an election in Egypt we don't have to put air quotes around.

11. Why not have internationally supervised fair elections?
Get Jimmy Carter involved as an observer.

18. No he really does not to the people of Egypt...
Edited on Sun Jan-30-11 04:42 PM by SkyDaddy7
He has actually coordinated with other opposition groups to include The Muslim Brotherhood who said on Aljazeera they support & trust him to be the leader until they can set up proper elections!

I know we are always subjected to propaganda about Muslim Groups & I know the Muslim Brotherhood has a very NASTY past...But they did renounce violence a long time ago & everything this guy was saying sounded very reasonable. And I loved Mohamed ElBaradei comparison of the Muslim Brotherhood to the Religious Right in America! SWEET!!!!!!

EDIT: But I have to say that I am not in anyway saying they are a 100% trust worthy group but not only Mohamed ElBaradei said they were not extremist others have said it as well...They said Mubarak has used them as the reason for emergency law & to keep us backing him because we do not want another Iran.

This whole scenario is more PROOF OUR CIA IS WORTHLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clinton was talking about how stable the regime was after the protest began Tuesday or Wednesday! What an embarrassment!

to negotiate for them. He's the last person that would try to "stage a coup", anyway.

14. San Francisco has checked in on the Mubarak issue.
Solidarity with Egypt Rally

Seems breaking up this regime may be core at forcing the end of renditions, torture, sex slave crimes, a whole shit load of stuff that the Bush/Cheney Clan have stealthily set up to manipulate these countries to do our bidding: i.e. accept our mercenaries to kill off their populations so the nomenclature can accumulate more wealth. It is a deadly game. I hope the people win and a lot of trafficking stops.

17. Excellent!
And if it weren't for the nukes that Israel has, I would be thrilled to have all US credibility lost in the Middle East. We've sucked over there for as long as we've stuck our overly long nose over there. But if Israel feels abandoned, well, I hope they don't do something stupid with their nukes.

22. For them to nuke places in the middle east would be crazy
It's a weapon of last resort, especially when you live in the general area you have to strike i.e. fallout.
