9-year-old shooting victim's organs help save child
Source: Arizona Republic

(The family of) Christina Taylor Green, the 9-year-old girl killed in Saturday's shootings in Tucson, donated her organs.

-----

The Most Rev. Gerald Kicanas, Bishop of Tucson told the crowd that Christina's organs were donated.

And a friend helping the Green family said they received a call yesterday from the organ donation network, telling them that Christina's donation had already saved the life of a child on the East Coast.

20. A pediatric organ donation saved my son's life. I think of his donor family all the time.
I cried for them when I learned my son would receive their child's organ.

I can't convey all the conflicting emotions, but the most overwhelming is gratitude.

23. A few months ago, a teenager I know received new lungs
because she has cystic fibrosis. Everyone who knows her is so very grateful for the family of the child whose lungs she got. It was definitely a child because she was so sick and tiny, didn't even weigh eighty pounds. She is doing so well now that's it's simply amazing. I'm so glad that she and your son were the recipients of such selfless gifts! Everyone who can should be an organ donor, it's something important that makes a real difference and something that we can all do.

Totally agree.

There was a good awareness campaign in the UK recently that went along
the lines of "If you would be prepared to accept a donated organ for
yourself or your loved ones, how can you not be prepared to donate one?".

33. Did you ever meet them?
Just wondering if you know who they are and if they expressed any interest in hearing about your son's life from time to time. Seems I would.

Hard to imagine what they feel.

40. No, it was an anonymous donation through the state's donation network.
All we knew was that it was a 4 yr old who had died within 24 hrs of my son's transplant.

Of course, we understood that it must have been under tragic circumstances.

I don't really know the regional protocol (i.e., if they were given an option to make themselves known to us).

I began scripting a letter to them in my head, but words would never be enough, would they?

Thank you so much to every family out there that has saved multiple lives through organ donation.

You have no idea how many lives are changed forever for the better by your selfless gift of life.

50. Words, no, (and I know it would need to be them initiating)
but as a NICU nurse, pictures speak a thousand words. We got so many pictures this Christmas on the unit and it was just magnificent every time I recognized a child, now thriving, who started out on a rocky road.

live on in some other child's life. We had a 5 year old hit by a car who donated 11 organs and it has been a comfort for the whole family. Christina lives on in this act of love.

38. What a fantastic testament to this family's character!
I cannot even imagine being in the middle of that chaos in addition to having just lost one's child to violence and still having the presence of mind to make the choice to donate her organs. Absolutely sterling character.

If there's any sort of silver lining on any of this mess, this is it.

41. Damn....
I have been able to hold back the tears through all of this so far, but reading this touched something inside and now it is all flowing out. Guess it needed to come out.

I cannot ever imagine the pain and anguish this family is going through...and through all of that they still thought of others. These are the kind of people this country, indeed this world, is in desperate need of. I wish them all the love and grace this weary world has to give. I wish them peace. I would give anything for them to have their angel back in their arms!

...to spare another mother and father from the immense, unimaginable pain.

As an agnostic, who believes that spirituality is very personal and that I could never personally have any definitive knowledge about God or divinity in my lifetime, I rarely talk about God or use phrases like “God bless.” But in my heart, I have no truer words that God bless them. God bless them, sincerely.

Edit: typo
