Contracts Draw Fire Over Ties to Christie

By LISA FLEISHER

New Jersey Democrats demanded Thursday the state cancel hundreds of millions of dollars in state contracts to companies that donated to a pro-Gov. Chris Christie advocacy group.

The group, called Reform Jersey Now, said Wednesday it raised about $624,000 to push several of Mr. Christie's top priorities through advertising, direct mail and recorded calls.

.......................................................

The group's activities and disclosure of donors have raised larger questions about the role of money in politics and the future of issue-advocacy groups that are a step removed from many campaign-finance laws.

"Frankly, the issue is broader than Reform Jersey Now," said Harry Pozycki, chairman of Citizens' Campaign, a group that advocates for stronger pay-to-play laws. "You might see springing up all over the place as a vehicle to subvert the protections of the public purse string that are afforded by pay to play reform."

Between being AWOL during the snow storm and this, Christie's future ain't too promising.

6. If they do there will be no mention of this
Just as there was no mention of the $400 million in federal Race to the Top funding Christie was personally responsible for losing the very day after the fact when he appeared on the scumbags' show.

3. This is the kind of story we used to hear about the Soviet Union or East Germany
The kind of story used to berate their political system and highlight how fair America's political system was.

Now we have a governor here in New Jersey who is no better than the dictators we used to criticize.

We used to indict and sentence politicians to jail terms for this type of activity. Chris Christie doesn't get jail. Chris Christie gets Disney Land.

15. This is the kind of story we used to hear about the Soviet Union or East Germany
I've been saying since the Bush years...

All through the Cold War we thought the conservatives HATED the Soviets, and now we find out it wasn't hate, it was ENVY!

8. The major problem is that the citizens
of New Jersey voted him into office.

10. That's absolutely correct.
And the NJ Dem electorate felt that Corzine was too slimy to support. However I would hope that in retrospect, the repercussions of not settling for anything unless it is "perfect" can be fully examined (i.e., they are ALL "politicians" and to survive, generally have some slime factor as part of their makeup).

JMHO from the neighboring state about to get even worse pond scum as a governor because loads of Dems didn't bother to vote despite the presence of the supposed "perfect" progressive candidate. :banghead:

9. Shocking. From Mr. I'd Rather go to Disneyworld Than Work as Gov.
Another GOP tool. All about talk and not at all about actually governing. Yep, go to Disney and leave your state in the midst of one of its largest disasters in about a century. Not counting you as governor. That's an extra-added disaster.

13. As a NJ resident....
As a NJ resident, I'm happy Christie is governor. Why?

He is a literally physical manifestation of generations of political cartoons picturing fat-cat pig zillionaires feeding at the public trough.

16. When I look at him I want to sing the "you're a lying sack of crap" song of Stephanie Miller's show.
To me, he just "looks" like a sack of sh*t.
