Mullen: End policy on gays as soon as possible
Source: Associated Press

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says he supports Congress using its lame-duck session to end the ban on gays serving openly in the military.

Adm. Mike Mullen says he backs action before the new Congress in January — if that's what it takes to end the "don't ask, don't tell" policy as soon as possible.

(snip)
Mullen tells ABC's "This Week" that he supports ending the ban because asking people to lie about themselves goes against the integrity of the armed forces.

13. I agree, but it would be best if Congress ended it, not the courts.
I think (and fervently hope) that it will happen in the lame duck session.

Good man. And it's an irrefutable argument.

6. Mullen understands
that DADT is nothing but special rights for homophobes. Time for Grampy Grumpy to switch his position on this issue again.

8. It's going to happen, and we can thank Sarah Palin for making Murkowski
more independent of the Republican establishment. They abandoned her and she is paying them back in kind.

16. Lets wait and see about that. As far as I know, she hasn't voted against the wishes
of the GOP Senate leadership yet since the election. Words come cheap, but it's action that counts and so far we haven't seen any from her. In fact, it may well be that she will be a more reliable GOP voter in the Senate than Miller would have been. She is part of the establishment, whereas Tea Party wackos like Miller are loose cannons.

9. The General should write a letter to the republicans. They stopped it, not "Congress". nt

11. The General Is An Admiral And A Great Admiral
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is not a General, he is Admiral Mullens

19. the GOP and financial elite are loathe to do this because the stigma and fear of being outed
are excellent ways to blackmail and control allies and enemies alike; bribes might work, fear of your life being ruined will work.

The end of DADT would go a long way towards making being gay no big deal, which would remove a low cost tool from the arsenal of the oligarchy.

20. Is this what he really thinks or is it just what he said for effect on a tv show?
He is one of the people who tell Obama what to think and what to do.He probably only says what he really thinks when he's under a cone of silence.
