Gibbs: DADT Still a Priority
Source: The Advocate

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Wednesday that passing “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal as part of the National Defense Authorization Act before the end of the year is "a priority" for President Barack Obama.

UPDATE: White House spokesman Shin Inouye sent the following statement to reporters Wednesday afternoon:

"Today, President Obama called Chairman (Carl) Levin to reiterate his commitment on keeping the repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' in the National Defense Authorization Act, and the need for the Senate to pass this legislation during the lame duck. The President’s call follows the outreach over the past week by the White House to dozens of Senators from both sides of the aisle on this issue."

produce. Not that I'd want it that way in an ideal world but in this one it forces the GOPs hand. We must take full credit for it though, should it pass. A huge ceremony, prime time. My next solution a not for profit corporation in the health care exchange voila public option, yep,, nope ??? Plus they go for hearings we can go look into bush years corruption and investigate in the Senate we can use this if they try to shut down government too as Papantonio suggested. Will there's a way. A nice game of hardball that's what I says, expire all tax cuts take 'em down to the mat.

8. UPDATE
With White House Pressing, Reid Vows DADT Repeal Will Reach Senate Floor

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) committed Wednesday night to a full vote that would repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," the U.S. military's ban on openly gay servicemembers.

In a statement, Reid said he will bring the pending defense authorization bill to the Senate floor with the DADT repeal attached sometime in December. "Our Defense Department supports repealing 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' as a way to build our all-volunteer armed forces," the statement reads. "We need to repeal this discriminatory policy so that any American who wants to defend our country can do so."

Reid's office blasted out the statement shortly after the Human Rights Campaign, a gay-rights advocacy group, issued its own statement asserting that Reid had promised them just such a move in a meeting.

That meeting included a strong White House presence, as well, The Advocate reported. Joining Reid's senior counsel and chief of staff were Deputy White House Chief of Staff Jim Messina, Legislative Affairs Director Phil Schiliro and Brian Bond, deputy director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, Kerry Eleveld reported.
