GOP blogs post racy Krystal Ball photos
Source: boston herald

Congressional candidate Krystal Ball says she’s angry that Republican bloggers posted private photos of her at a costume party, and that it is a sexist tactic meant to divert attention from the issues.

The suggestive photos, taken of Ball and her ex-husband at a costume party about six years ago when she was 22, were posted online Tuesday by a conservative blog and reposted by several other bloggers. The original blog later took down the photos.

"Of course, I am embarrassed by these photos, that was the whole point of these political operatives when they put them up," Ball said in a statement on her Facebook page yesterday. "But more than just embarrassed, I’m angry. I’m angry that when we are suffering from high unemployment, record budget deficits and a broken education system, that crass political operatives will resort to the politics of personal destruction when they can’t talk about the issues."

In a phone interview, Ball said she thinks that female candidates are unfairly held to a different standard.

She noted that recently elected Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown had once posed nude in a magazine centerfold, yet it wasn’t a big deal in his campaign.

Ball said she disagrees politically with women like Sarah Palin and Delaware candidate Christine O’Donnell, but thinks "they also have been subjected to very unfair, sexist attacks" because of their gender.

6. She or her ex-husband had to have posted them online somewhere in the past.
Otherwise, how did the Republican bloggers find those photos?

Nevertheless, the GOP hypocrisy is nothing new.

13. did it occur to you that maybe a third person took the pictures and posted them
and that neither she nor her husband had any control over that person's action?

15. "YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE POSTED THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE!"
I don't understand your anger. She was 22, at a Halloween costume ball, attending with her then husband, the article does not say she posted the pictures and the article says 'racy.' It does not say 'Porn, nude or any adjective that would upset moderates. I say let the Puritans in this country stay upset at anything overt, or covert, with sex appeal. It is they who are obsessed with sex as a recent article pointed out (Can't find cite).

Other than that, why so pissed off?

16. While I'm not pissed off at anything...
I find your odd response to be...odd.

The failure of someone posting something "objectionable" only comes as a revelation when that same person suddenly needs to promote an opposite sense of reality.

My opinion has nothing to do with sex, as you so choose to believe, my response as to do with cause and effect upon perception.

When a republican goes off half cocked on a Dem who does something like this, all is fair in the right wing blogosphere. However, if we point out the same hypocrisy, then we are called to the mat about pointing out their stupidity?

Pul-eeeze.

She gets all bent out of shape in an age where privacy of any type has become a commodity. People in her age bracket have been polled stating that "that having things out there for the world to see, is okay. Nothing to hide".

So there is the rub, while she might not agree with that statement, it is very much part of "open-cy" movement of her generation.

So while I would like to believe that she has a right to privacy just like anyone else, her surprise at her photos turning up on the net, to me, reads not only full of hypocrisy, but also an element of feigned surprise and indignation.

In other words, if she can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Politics is a full contact sport. Would this have even been an issue had she not been running for office?

Somehow, I think not.

Her failure came when she got outraged. She should have just shrugged it off as a "non-trovercy". That would have served her better.

But like most repubs, she creates outrage to help shine the spot light on her.

Their whining serves them well.

8. meh.
They're really not that racy, and she actually looks much more attractive in her photos now than she did in those anyway.

Too bad we (as a country) criticize people for minor shit like this. To me it says she's well rounded and not a complete bore. It's unfortunate that some people see that as a bad thing...

(not linking since the pictures have been taken down by the original blogger. A little easy google-fu will find them for you though)

If you don't want sleazy photos of yourself posted on the Internet, don't let people take them in the first place.

12. Good - another lesson for the teens out there.
Just go to Myspace and type something semi-risque into the photo search box, you'll find pages and pages and pages of this kind of stuff with a seemingly blatant disregard for anyone seeing it.

People need to wisen up and it's sad for this lady if it hurts her political chances but hopefully smarter people out there will learn from it.

14. Gosh! They were babies! What a none-story about nothing. If that were her only
mistep in her life, it is a very minor thing. They must not be able to find much bad about her to rely on that to derail her.

Issues. They should be concentrating on real issues.
