Assistant AG takes leave amid gay-bashing controversy (update: not suspension)
Source: The Detroit News

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Assistant Attorney General Andrew Shirvell had been suspended.

An assistant attorney general who has attracted national attention for a controversial blog that ridicules and denounces a University of Michigan student leader for his gay advocacy, religious beliefs and character has taken a personal leave following intense public scrutiny, a spokesman for Attorney General Mike Cox said today.

Cox spokesman John Sellek said, however, Andrew Shirvell will be the subject of a disciplinary hearing after he returns to work at an undetermined future date.

Shirvell's decision to go on leave came a day after Cox told CNN he didn't intend to fire Shirvell, citing civil service rules that protect government employees from being "fired willy-nilly" for exercising their rights of free speech.

2. The clock is ticking...
Attorney General Mike Cox will be out of office in a couple of months.
If Cox doesn't fire Shirvell, then my guess is that whoever takes his place, republican or democrat, will have the firing of Shirvell at the top of his 'to do' list :)

5. one has to wonder why his boss wouldn't suspend or fire him for wasting so much time on this one kid
and his obsessive attention of such prevents him from doing his job more thoroughly, etc..

6. Simple, he supports him on it
If you can't fire him over something so blatant as this, especially with just a few months left in your term, then clearly you support his actions. Seems pretty cut and dry to me.

8. Yes and No
Yes he probably supports the same agenda, but Mike Cox has said that he will have a disciplinary hearing when Shirvell returns to work. I think Cox is looking for the 'legal way' out of this mess.
Now that the 'stalking' allegations have come to the forefront (will be aired in court Monday), I think that in the end Cox will fire his ass. ;)

9. You are probably right, Tx4Obama
It is alway easy to make the call when you are not in Mike Cox's role. I was thinking about the topic and possible repurcussions. I think that the perfect solution would be to fire Shirvell without setting any type of precedent where somebody would face legal ramifications by criticizing somebody via their blog or picketing at a public place. Fortunately, in this case, Shirvell has gone so overboard that he will have a hard time hiding behind the first ammendment. I also think that now that this is being linked to Cox, he will view it with a different set of eyes. I really do not know much about Cox, but imagine havinga very successful career as an AG to have everybody remember you simply for something tat happened the last 3 months of your position.

10. A Stalking By A Government Offical & A Suicide After Online Bullying.......

(Not to leave out the other young kids who were part of the stories this week).....

... and the Whitehouse remains silent..... (and I'm talking about Obama).....

If only these poor fellows had been arrested while entering there own home..... the President would have jumped in with both "fierce feet", and invited them to the Whitehouse for a beer.......

Does it really surprise anyone that this freak has not/will not be fired?

Rhetorical Question... As I already know the answer.....

11. Shirvell
will shrivel. He has, according to AC360, already fulfilled the definition of a cyberbully. I assume AC mentioned it to help Shirvell get a clue...If cyberbullying is a form of harassment punishable under Mich. law, then Shirvell will shrivel.
