Raoul Moat: Taser Supplier Loses Licence
Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 11:19 AM by dipsydoodle
Source: Sky News

The company which supplied Tasers used by police during a stand-off with fugitive Raoul Moat has had its licence revoked by the Home Secretary.

>

It comes after it had emerged that the gun fired at Moat by officers - the X12 Taser - was not licensed for distribution under the Firearms Act.

It had been claimed the use of the experimental Taser was at the discretion of individual forces.

But now Theresa May has said Pro-Tect Systems "breached its licence" by supplying weapons "direct to police that were only available for supply to the Home Office Science and Development branch".

3. I saw this thing on Sky earlier and they were delivered 1/2 an hour before they put them in action
They target practised on some empty plastic bags and then went off with them, according to a witness (I think it might be in the embedded video, I'm not sure as I'm having probs downloading it). That photo in the OP looks like something out of Robocop. :o

6. Raoul Moat Taser company man 'kills himself'
The director of operations of the firm which supplied the Tasers used during the stand-off with gunman Raoul Moat is understood to have killed himself.

Former police officer Peter Boatman, of the Daventry firm Pro-Tect, was found dead on Friday morning, his business partner said.
...
He added that Mr Boatman was a "proud man" who had worked hard to protect the police and had felt "ashamed" at the recent developments.

Mr Coles said the Home Office ban and the subsequent coverage had "destroyed" his colleague.

Wow. That's an extreme reaction.
