Rubio building on his lead in U.S. Senate race, poll shows

With a little over a month remaining before the Nov. 2 election, the three-way race for U.S. Senate is turning into a two-man race -- for second place. A statewide poll released Saturday night shows Republican Marco Rubio building on his lead over independent challenger Charlie Crist, while Democrat Kendrick Meek appears to be closing in on Crist in the closely-watched contest.

Rubio is favored by 40 percent of likely voters, up from 38 percent last month; Crist's support has dwindled to 28 percent from 33 percent, according to the Mason-Dixon Research & Associates survey of 625 likely Florida voters. The margin of error: plus/minus four percentage points.

The poll found that Meek is gaining on Crist, with his support rising to 23 percent of likely voters, up from 18 percent. Nine percent are undecided.

``Rubio seems to be in a solid position to win, while Crist is fading,'' Mason-Dixon pollster Brad Coker said. ``Crist is bleeding Democrats to Meek and independents to both Meek and Rubio.''

1. This very, very BAD news
This corrupt "businessman" from the health care industry is the last thing this country needs. I used to work in the corporate offices of a mega pharm firm (finance) and know first hand how corrupt this industry is. A businessman from this field is NOT someone you want in the senate.

I don't care if Florida elects an ultra right wing, tea party candidate for governor, but the senate affects the entire country.

But this is the state that gave us JEBBIE. I think the SUNSHINE fries people's brains here.

5. Well guess what, I DO care if FL elects a tea party candidate for governor!!
Otherwise there is NO ONE to veto the crazy-ass bills which the right wingers want to shove down our throats.

I live and vote here and it MATTERS TO ME.

2. Crist is going nowhere. Time for Democrats to get behind Meek.

3. Gee, I hope he doesn't have faulty brakes.
Like, that's what I really hope. I really, really hope that.

But I never get what I want. (Let's hope.)

6. a perfect case for why we need instant runoff voting
I remember Howard Dean advocating it during his presidential primary run, but I think he's since quieted down about it. No one else of that high a profile has ever seriously mentioned it. Why not? Can a situation like this not make the voters of Florida want a change in how they elect who will represent them?

9. Rubio's running some tame ads that I can see would appeal to the less-aware independents.
