Whitman's economic plan will do little to bring jobs to California, experts say
Source: LA Times

The GOP gubernatorial candidate promises to cut spending and suggests that lower taxes and less regulation will spur business. But experts say the bleak economy is mostly due to the real estate crisis.

When Meg Whitman says California is bleeding jobs, the Republican gubernatorial nominee often cites the exit of Northrop Grumman.

(snip)
She suggests that if the government also cut taxes, eased regulations and focused more on recruiting new companies and retaining those already here, California would not be suffering record unemployment.

But many policy experts say such plans will do little in the short term to create the 2 million new jobs Whitman promises: The state's bleak economy is primarily the result of its deep investment in the real estate boom. The resulting mortgage crisis and credit crunch led to hundreds of thousands of construction-related workers being laid off in an industry that is unlikely to rebound anytime soon.

4. While Whitman was chief enforcer at ebay,
user fees and final fees, etc. gradually went up and up. Aren't those a wee tiny little bit like taxes?

5. More of the trickle-down voodoo nonsense
She suggests that if the government also cut taxes, eased regulations and focused more on recruiting new companies and retaining those already here, California would not be suffering record unemployment.

Yes, by all means, let's become just like ... China!

"Cut taxes" = Let infrastructure rot, let poor people & sick people starve & die, borrow from China to fund CEO bonuses.

"Ease regulations" = no labor laws, no wage laws, no environmental laws.

"Focus on recruiting new companies" = Guarantee a tax-free regulation-free environment (see above) where, in exchange for laundering a portion of their profits back to Whitman, they will be guaranteed never to be annoyed by laws or regulations while she insures that there will be a large pool of desperate people willing to work anywhere for any amount.

7. Glad to see this article
Someone needs to be talking about the fact that her economic agenda is non-existent, she doesn't have one. Saying lets cut taxes and let businesses circumvent necessary regulation isn't a plan its a continuance of failed existing policy. This article puts it clearly - California loses 11,000 jobs a year because of regulatory burdens, that is less than one tenth off 1% of our total job force. De-regulation doesn't save a huge amount of jobs, it does not do what she says it will, someone needs to point out these logical fallacies of hers.

13. The GOP doesn't want to solve the problems of the middle class. They
just want more money for themselves. Their lack of keynsian economics will hurt economies a great deal if they get into office this November.

20. "Bringing Jobs" is not Creating Jobs
Cutting taxes to persuade a company to relocate some jobs from Iowa is not doing the economy of either state any favors. It just becomes a race to the bottom as states compete to attract business, and eventually, we all become Mississippi.
