Pelosi Implores Dems On Tax Cuts: 'Who Do You Stand With?'
Christina Bellantoni | September 14, 2010, 10:50PM

Speaker Nancy Pelosi tonight implored House Democrats in a private meeting to consider a pre-election vote on extending the Bush-era tax cuts for the middle class while letting those for the rich expire, framing the debate in partisan terms.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee told TPM after the caucus that Pelosi ended the meeting with a "resounding" and impassioned speech that fired up the Democrats and might even have brought more on board for a vote.

"She made it clear it's a black and white issue of who do you stand with," Lee told TPM. "It's the middle class and they need to know we are pushing for them. We have to say it over and over again. They've gotta see it, smell it, sense it, taste it."

Lee (D-TX) said that Democrats should be as consistent as President Obama has been, and attempt to define the Republicans as favoring the rich.

2. Voters Support Democrats on Tax Cuts
I guess that should say 'most' Democrats. :eyes:

Voters Support Democrats on Tax Cuts

A new Democracy Corps survey shows Democrats holding the popular position, 55% to 38%, in the debate on extending the Bush tax cuts for everyone earning less than $250,000 but letting them lapse for the wealthiest Americans.

While the GOP edge in the generic congressional ballot is seven points in the survey, the lead is cut to just five points after those surveyed understand the Republican position on tax cuts.

4. This is why she is a darn good Speaker of the House
And this is why I supported her over Rep. Steny Hoyer (DLC-MD). The DLCers fought her tooth and nail to get their man in, too.

5. Which comes first?
Do rich people become republicans?
Or do republicans become rich?

6. Most Republicans don't have two nickels to rub together...
They tend to be dumb as a box of rocks, poor, angry about their lot in life, and in need of some authority figure to tell them what to do - like a preacher, a priest, or some sleazy politician. Without those idiots, the Republican party would dry up and blow away; there just aren't enough rich people to prop it up.

12. re: Which came first

So is it the democrats that are rich then?

If that's the case:

Then why are the republicans "for the rich" if it isn't working in their best interest?
And why are the democrats "against the rich" if it isn't working in their best interest?

13. Both parties serve the plutocracy...
The Republican party to a higher degree. In other words, the rich are served quite nicely by both parties, but more-so by the Republican party. Where did you get the crazy idea that the Democratic party is "against the rich"?

10. It's a red-or-blue issue that distinguishes Democrats from republicans.
Dems that go the wrong way on this will show their true color.

Red.

11. but someday the entire middle class will win the lottery
or, through honest hard work, get to incomes of over 500K for a couple, and we can't punish that hard work by asking them to pay 4% more on their AGI. its soshlyzm, dagnabbit.
