Hill pressure tipped the balance on Rice
http://www.thehill.com/news/033104/rice.aspx

President Bush’s decision yesterday to allow his national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, to testify publicly and under oath before an independent panel investigating the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks was prompted at least in part by concerns among senior lawmakers in the House Republican caucus.

They had come to feel that the White House position had become politically untenable, The Hill learned.

The lawmakers conveyed their message through an intermediary, who asked to speak on the condition of anonymity. His GOP colleagues told him that the White House would have to give in, in light of the enormity what transpired on Sept. 11 – the single greatest loss of life on U.S. soil.

“Some colleagues wanted her to testify,” said Rep. David Dreier (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Rules Committee.

1. Great article! Some memorable gibberish from Republicans
as they vent their bile on Clark. They simply fail to impress.

2. N o matter what anyone says, I have little trust in this panel
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 08:57 PM by Marianne
Rice will testify--but the restrictions are many and the panel agrees to not question anyone else in the White House once she testifies. What is that? Who runs this panel--the White House? Apparently so. It's corrupted and it is pathetic this commission. Now Bush and Cheny are going to appear like the Bobsey twins. If not so sad, it is truly laughable.

This is our President?

I am not even interested in watching this bitch's testimony.

And after the farce is over, The Bush PR propaganda team will make sure every one gets the message--see, it is nothing like we said and Clarke is a disgruntled employee.

Just like they did with the AWOL issue .

We provided all that is available of Bush's record they said and went through a whole ostentatious display for days, eeking out and letting little things slip out here and there to give the appearance that they were indeed releasing all that was available in Bush's military records. And what happened--a dentist record is all there is to show he was in Alabama, and many many unanswered questions. But--it's down the memory hole and went down there rather fast.

My feeling is that this 9-11 commission will issue a report that is bland and non committal, and that will show the entire thing was nothing but a whitewash. Bush will get away with it, and most likely ,and due to his propaganda machine, will come out as if he was the most cooperative and willing witness ever to grace the halls of the congress.

A real "war president" and a great leader.

Condi will lie--and so? So nothing. No one else can be called to testify, so who can say she is lying?

She will retire early next year and go off a wealthy woman, doing the lecture circuit and writing a book and no doubt being handed a lucrative position in some corporation that is near and dear to Bush's heart. She has it made no matter what she does. Why should any of them worry? These types never suffer that much punishment for their treasons. It's not like we still hang people for treason you knowl In fact, we enable them to go on and become wealthy and sought after as knowledgeable gurus.

Too bad all that energy and money had to be wasted on this bunch of crap being put out by the commission. They are shills of Bush.

4. I think right now....
they are all huddling together, comparing notes to make sure everything hangs together. They know that if there are holes in their stories, it shoots a hole in their alibis. People will smell a rat.

The "cabal" also knows that there are a LOT of smart people in this country, who are just waiting, rubbing their hands together at the thought of Condiment Rice appearing under oath, no less.

So they're checking their stories. As long as they all say the same thing, then they should be OK.

Condiment: "Bush was not obsessed with Saddam Hussein. He was sure that the Iraqis were behind the 9/11 attack. He just wanted to make sure it would never happen again."

Cheney: "We were sure Hussein was plotting to bomb the US, just that very same week. When we analyzed the maps of the oil fields in Iraq, we suspected that there were some hidden WMD's there".
