ICE: 370 illegal immigrants arrested in 10 states
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have arrested nearly 400 illegal immigrants -- including 347 with prior criminal convictions -- over a three-day operation throughout the Midwest, the agency announced Friday.

The arrests in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kansas, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska were part of the agency's "Cross Check" operations that began in 2009 and are being held across the country.

"We are doing more than ever to prevent people from coming here illegally and we're doing more than ever to focus on those criminal aliens who are threatening our public safety," said Gail Montenegro, a spokeswoman for ICE's Chicago, Illinois, office.

Of the 370 people arrested this week, more than half of them had prior convictions for serious violent crimes such as armed robbery, drug trafficking and aggravated assault.

1. It's actually kind of scary that we are tossing the worst offenders into that Mexican Drug war.
Never thought about it before. Do they get locked up by the Mexican government or are they out on the streets?

6. Still avoiding the *REAL* issues.
NAFTA, CAFTA, tax policies, tariffs, wage protection, worker's rights, and employer accountability. How about refuse to buy another product from any country that doesn't have decent worker's rights enforced. How about demand a living wage for all jobs. How about making unions strong again - and stronger than before. This country has no spine or the guts to do the right thing for the right reasons.

Rounding up undocumented workers won't do a thing to solve our *real* problems. ICE may feel proud of what they've done but if so many of these people were criminals, they should be arrested *anyway*. It's no boon to immigration issues.

The policies of this country are nonsense and only benefitting insiders. Don't ever believe that a suit and a stern face are the marks of a mature man. If rampant self-interest is their guiding light, they are no better than selfish, short-sighted children. And that is, in fact, the mentality of most people in charge of corporations today.

7. Yeah...I sleep safer every night knowing ICE
is deporting all these "violent" aliens that threaten my existence.

Most of the "aggravated assault" convictions are drunken fights where the aliens plead guilty without being apprised of the immigration consequences. Drug trafficking can mean as little as a paraphernalia conviction. Theft can be as dangerous as pinching a jar of pistachios from a supermarket. First rate police work.

11. CNN spreading bigotry
Seems clear to me that this story is being broadcast to support the idea that immigrants are dangerous criminals.

CNN spreading blatant bigotry over the air, not bothering to qualify with the fact that of the 11 million or so in the country, only 350 some have been found guilty of any serious crime.

Then I'll be in a convo with some right wing oinker and this "story" will be cited as "evidence" of how scary immigrants are.
