Just announced on CBS Radio News. The monument has been in the park since the 1950s.

City of Boise moving Ten Commandments Monument
March 29, 2004

The city of Boise is moving the Ten Commandments monument from a city park this afternoon over protests from religious activists.

Mayor Dave Bieter signaled the move more than a week ago after the protesters failed to gain any legal ground in trying to keep the monument in the park.

The ton-and-a-half monument will be moved to St. Michael's Episcopal Cathedral across the street from the State Capitol in downtown Boise. Although the new location is much more prominent than the one the monument has occupied since 1965, religious groups have fought to keep it on public property.

Boise Police Captain Mike Webb says he expects peaceful demonstrations.

Edited on Mon Mar-29-04 06:07 PM by CO Liberal
They said this one has been in the part since the '50s.

ON EDIT: Apparantly, the city decided to remove teh Ten Commandments monument from the park because Fred Phelps wanted to put his anti-gay monument next to it.

6. when I see a monument devoted to Satan, Hindus, Atheists, Wicca
Agnostics, Shintoists, all 3 versions of the 10 commandmants (yes, there are 3 versions), Buddhists, Muslims, Pagans, and every other religion and non religious philosophy out there then I wont bitch about just 1 version of someone's religious views being on public property. Until I see that, believe me, its all or nothing.
You and I know full well that the people who want their version of the 10Cs on public property would scream bloody murder if the rest of the religions and non religions in the US had their own plaque on public land.

8. Wow, how enlightened of them
And it is so simple to move it to church property. Geez. It's all about sponsorship.

11. I agree with Mari, but I also agree in part with Step...
Personally, I don't want the "faith of my fathers"...ahem...being pushed forcefully into the face of my fellow countrymen. I do believe in the separation of church and state. Like Mari, if all beliefs can be represented, then cool on 10C's.

However, if there is a LONG,LONG,LONG STANDING monument or buildings with religious frieze BUILT in, or sculptures/statues in public etc, I wouldn't want tax dollars spent or blood pressures rise for REMOVING those things. Can you just see the Capitol building being razed because of some religious symbolism? That's going too far. I hope we won't see groups calling for the dissembling of crosses, stars of david, crescents in CEMETERIES???
If a thing is built in to our aging structures, then it's part of our historical architecture, right or wrong, and ought to be left alone.
Respectfully....
