Obama: Sherrod deserved better
Posted: July 29th, 2010 10:31 AM ET

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama said Thursday that Shirley Sherrod "deserves better than what happens last week when a bogus controversy ... led to her forced resignation."

"Many are to blame" for the reaction that followed, he said, "including my own administration."

Her whole story, Obama said he told Sherrod, "is exactly the kind of story we need to hear in America (because) we all have our biases."

The president made his remarks during an appearance at the National Urban League's 100th Anniversary Convention in Washington.

1. Did we learn a little lesson, Mr. President?
Let me take a swing at it: Don't let Fox News - or the fear of what Fox News might say - drive your policy or personnel decisions. Carve it in stone. Embroider it on a pillow. Write it 100 times on a chalkboard. But for crissakes, learn it!

4. This *country* has deserved better!
Way better than insurance industry gifts.

Way better than continued feeding of the military-industrial complex.

Way better than turning a blind eye to Guantanamo Bay and all the Bush/Cheney crimes of war and against the Constitution.

Way better than being spied upon without warrant.

Way better than separate and not quite equal for the gay community.

Way better than mostly toothless "reform" of the rampant greed on Wall St.

11. All people deserve a President who doesn't cater to corporations, lobbyists and
doesn't fly the white flag when the GOP so much as sneezes.

17. You know what is *really* like a dagger through the heart?
Being sold a bill of goods and then seeing my hopes, dreams, and money get used and abused.

You what's the same shit, different day? The policies coming out of Washington. The only difference now is that some crumbs are tossed our way once in a while to keep up the illusion that they give a shit. Washington is now a casino run by corporations and the house always wins.

All of our fussing and fighting, esp. just via an online board, doesn't amount to a hill of beans. Sometimes it feels to good to let the frustrations out but now if anyone doesn't realize that Dem or Rep, it's the same shit trickling down then they either are too dumb to realize it or just plain don't give a damn. I said about 4-5 years ago before the big recession hit that it was coming and that, in a sick sorta way, I wished it would hit hard to wake this country up out of its media/technology/video game/ipod/iphone-induced trance. but, uh, even then I don't think that would happen.

23. "...attacks on the administration are like daggers through my heart"
Nix the drama. When it comes to politics, it's best to be led by facts. If you allow the facts to take you wherever they lead, you will be singing a different tune.

Investing oneself emotionally in a politician is a fool's game.

Now put some meat on the bone and give her her old job back, not some don nothing position to keep her on the sidelines.

I know she wasn't too thrilled about the job offer she got, but I didn't know she'd A. been offered her old job back or B. refused it.

Do you have a link? I'd like to read what she said. Thanks.
