Whirlpool 2Q net income more than doubles (while sending jobs to Mexico)

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Whirlpool's second-quarter net income more than doubled - and topped expectations - as it cut costs.

The world's largest appliance maker says Tuesday that it also benefited from more shoppers taking advantage of federal rebates to buy new appliances.

The company earned $$205 million, or $2.64 per share, during the three month period ending in late June. Excluding certain one-time items, that figure is $2.82.

In the same period last year the company earned $78 million, or $1.04 per share.

1. See how good things can be when you throw thousands of people into unemployment?

Hey, Whirlpool, who do you expect to buy your crap if you keep firing your potential customers?

2. US Federal rebates to buy Mexican appliances? Something doesn't add up.

3. No one is clean...
When I was looking for a new over-the-stove microwave last month, one of the *only* brands still made in the US was a Whirlpool. Sure, they make some stuff in Mexico like every other appliance company, but do your research when you buy and buy from whoever employs people here.

4. Just one more in a looooong list of greedy corporations....
Yes...I'm pissed at whirlpool for moving jobs to Mexico. They are by far, not the first. They are getting damned close to being the last...as there are not many left; if there are any left?

This is pathetic. Thom Hartman's interview yesterday with a Mr. Wolffe pretty well explains it all. We are encouraging corporations to send our jobs abroad. It makes them greater profits by far...and their stock goes up just enough to keep the American investor "mums" on the cowardly move.

When are we going to wake up and stop this nonsense? We simply take it in the ass and smile sheepishly with our $0.05 dividend check. Nation of f*cking morons.
