Cheney Has Device Implanted in His Heart
Edited on Wed Jul-14-10 03:36 PM by EmeraldCityGrl
Source: The Oval

As many of you know, I have dealt with coronary artery disease for decades, suffering my first heart attack in 1978 at age 37. Over the years, excellent care from my doctors and advances in medicine and technology have allowed me to live a full and active life, for which I am very grateful.

A few weeks ago, it became clear that I was entering a new phase of the disease when I began to experience increasing congestive heart failure. After a series of recent tests and discussions with my doctors, I decided to take advantage of one of the new technologies available and have a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implanted. The LVAD is a small implantable pump that improves heart function and will enable me to resume an active life.

Last week I underwent surgery at Inova Fairfax Heart and Vascular Institute and had an LVAD implanted. The operation went very well and I am now recuperating.

blah, blah, blah...

Sorry about the source, it's all I had. This device is used as a bridge to transplant. I'm not sure transplants are given to people of his age, but if they were,
the thought that my heart could be implanted in this vile man is frightening.

10. The LVAD went from a huge console to a backpack
when I cared for people who had them. Now some of the controllers are small enough to clip onto a pair of suspenders. Seven years ago, they were just beginning the approval process to use them in people who were in end stage heart failure but not candidates for transplant. It seems that approval has finally come through.

If The Dick is careful, he might make it to trial.

Read about the two basic types here: http://my.clevelandclinic.org/heart/disorders/heartfailure/lvad_devices.aspx

19. "End-stage heart failure"
I never saw anyone with end-stage heart failure who lasted more than a year.

My dad lasted about three months. My grandmother lasted eight. Both had severe left-side "remodeling" (heart deformation and atrophy); both were considered to have done very well.

21. With the LVAD approved for heart failure patients who aren't
transplant recipients (yeah, I had to look it up), the prognosis is a little better. The Dick might actually survive the decade it will take to bring charges.

He's going to feel quite chipper, in fact, and his organ systems will begin to repair themselves as his perfusion is improved.

But yes, the course of end stage heart failure without it is short and grisly. I've seen people survive as many as five years, but they didn't like it and they were in the hospital almost as much as they were home.

23. Cheney recuperating from heart surgery
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- Former Vice President Dick Cheney says he underwent heart surgery last week and is recuperating.

In a statement, Cheney said he had been experiencing increasing congestive heart failure and after consultations with his doctors, he had received an implantable pump to improve heart function. He said the operation went well and he is recuperating.

The 69-year-old Cheney has a long history of heart disease. Cheney's heart attack earlier this year was his fifth since age 37.

I hope lives on for a long painful life .... clutching his chest, unable to catch his breath, and a fear of his death never far from his thoughts.

My neighbor's son is dying of brain cancer after three tours of Iraq at the age of 30.

118. Most likely...
he'll drown. As more and more fluid builds up in his lungs as the left ventricle simply continues to fail pumping oxygenated blood from the lungs to the rest of the body and it backs up and drowns him slowly.

Its not a good way to go. My uncle had it and he suffered in hospice for weeks.

I guess Karma is for real, Dick.

someone else would have passed away if they didn't have the access to the type of care this person has. I don't wish ill to anyone but IT really makes me angry when the republicans congratulate him on getting well when he is part of the cause of the mess we have in this country today.

But then he is a republican and the tea bags, the radicals and the CONservatives are all for him with his trillions he made off the back of the American people, while denying unemployment benefits to the very needy in this country. Although I hestitate to believe there is such a place, I can not help but wish every one of them including Ben Nelson rots forever in Hell.

In it there's a scene where the beautiful mad scientist had to rebuild Robocop because the Kanemitsu Corporation's rent-a-thugs shot him with a grenade launcher, and she needed a new artificial heart. One of the rebels got her one...she looked at it and started screaming. "You idiot! I said a Nissan! That's a Kanemitsu!"

Cheney got the Kanemitsu.

65 is the upper limited to do heart transplants. They want to assure that younger people can get the hearts that are available. Let me guarantee you, Dick will be the exception. He'll buy one with his money and influence, leaving younger, more deserving people to die.

Will this evil never depart our planet?

67.  Dick Cheney In Recovery After Major Heart Surgery
Edited on Wed Jul-14-10 06:36 PM by wilt the stilt
Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Dick Cheney disclosed Wednesday that he has undergone surgery to install a small pump to help his heart work, as the 69-year-old enters a new phase of what he called "increasing congestive heart failure."

"The operation went very well and I am now recuperating," a still-hospitalized Cheney said in a statement.

The kind of heart pump that Cheney received can be implanted next to the heart to help its main pumping chamber, the left ventricle, pump blood through the body. Such devices are used mainly for short periods, to buy potential transplant candidates time as they await a donor organ.

I wish he had to deal with regular "insurance" also I will keep quiet because I was taught not to say bad things.

But if he needs a transplant, he'll go to the top of the list. Wanta bet.

115. I bet he is on the transplant list. Ventricular
Assist Devices are commonly used to bridge failing heart while awaiting a transplant. That was my first thought. They have run out of gadgets -- so now he will need someone else's flesh.

actually means he's not untouchable even after he's dead.

The only bad thing about all this is he may die of a heartattack instead of being hung for war crimes.

Looks like a piece of plumbing.

Good job on Rachel with the Dr showing and explaining the device.

Cheney was sicker than he let on - nice of him to put himself a hearbeat from the presidency.

107. "A Device." (Brief poem for Dick Cheney on receiving another mechanical addition)
A Device, for Dick Cheney

A device inside of a machine
Inside of nightmare horrors
Ripe with the fears and screams
Of unspeakalbe, unpardonable tortures,

Spoked with spines of mal-intent
And laced with desert's ice
Where all but despair is spent,
A machine, inside: another device.
