Sharron Angle Backtracks After Calling BP Cash a "Slush Fund"
Edited on Thu Jul-08-10 09:50 PM by TomCADem
Source: CBS News

In a statement today, Republican Senate nominee Sharron Angle walked back remarks she made last night comparing the $20 billion BP escrow account to a "slush fund."

"Having had some time to think about it," Angle said, "the caller and I shouldn't have used the term 'slush fund'; that was incorrect."

* * *

She added: "But there are multiple parties at fault here and there should be a thorough investigation. We need to look into the actions, (or inactions) of the Administration and why the regulatory agency in charge of oversight was asleep at the wheel while BP was cutting corners."

On KXNT, a local Nevada radio station, Angle responded to a question on whether she believed the government had the authority to have BP create such a fund by saying, "Well, the short answer is no, government shouldn't be doing that to a private company." She added, "And I think you named it. Clearly, it's a slush fund."

It is amazing that Nevada voters are favoring Sharron Angle over Harry Reid. Now, Sharron Angle is calling compensation to victims of the BP oil disaster a slush fund. I guess she can get on the big oil band wagon with Joe Barton and John Boehner, and have the taxpayers pay for these damages, rather than BP.

So, attention all you gulf residents who are demanding compensation. Stop feeding at the trough of this slush fund, and get to work!

I guess this message resonates with the electorate, because she is beating Harry Reid.

1. She doesn't understand
"why the regulatory agency in charge of oversight was asleep at the wheel while BP was cutting corners."

Here's a clue, twit. It was because the Cheney Administration pulled the regulators off the oil industry.

3. Obama and Reid mocked her brutally for it an hour ago
Obama's out here stumping for Reid. The Killers were apparently the opening act, but that didn't make the local news feed. Due to a prior engagement (The Beatle's Love!), I was unable to attend.

7. Wow. Classic Bushiganda slip. First she read from the old memo. But now, look at memo #2 tells
her to say.

"But there are multiple parties at fault here and there should be a thorough investigation. We need to look into the actions, (or inactions) of the Administration and why the regulatory agency in charge of oversight was asleep at the wheel while BP was cutting corners."

Now, anyone paying attention or not under the spell of the Corporate M$M might notice that these words are absolutely false, phony, and if fact she is talking like people she and her Flying Monkey Brigade rountinely mock such talk in the strongest possible terms.

But someone at RNC has been doing their marketing research. Someone at RNC knows that the lies and flasehoods and misinformation and plain old disingenuous bullshit that Republics can get away wioth against the American Subject Populace are limitless. Absolutely limitless.

And so, whereas not 20 or 30 years ago (definitely 40) a politician who insulted the intelligence of their audience by speak forced, false "cloned" wording that expresses a philosophy of regulation that is absolutely 100% diamterically opposed to everything she said before and probably after the election, if she wins. (God Forbid)

By the laws of advertising, marketing and PR, the Repugs calculate that, lost in the cacophony of the nonsense of Corporate M$M and how badly it has destroyed our National Memory and distorted our National Dialogue, they calculate that not enough people will notice the duplicitous shift to matter.

I mean, this is so ridiculous as to be like Michael Moore getting up and saying he wants LESS regulation in the wake of the gulf disaster.

And the few, if any, in the Corporate M$M, who dare to mention this will be pilloried from end to end. The RW Lie Machine will not hesitate to turn their National Propaganda Apparatus to it, which of course would be abetted in the Corporate M$M. But they would only need Beck et al, if the state media wasn't playing ball.

Ever feel like a goose walked over your grave? Or hear the quiet thump of Stormtrooper boots on the horizon?

This amazing bout of shameless hubris that it took for her to say that! And the fact that following a script we have all seen before 1000 times in the now virtually merged Corporate M$M/RW Lie Machine, it is a near-certainty that she is going to easily get away with it. She'll be saying it many more times between now and November, I expect.

Just seeing stuff like this, as it gets worse and worse and more and more Orwellian, are like little signposts towards what I have been calling Late Middle Phase, but now near Penultimate Phase towards what we are becoming. I cannot say for sure in detail what it will be, but it won't be good and I am guessing in a Third-World not-good way for at least a majority of people.

8. I posted earlier today on an unrelated issue that the windowdressing was getting sparse
The other poster and I agreed that they don't see any reason to fear us, and it's full speed ahead.

I don't think we'll like the destination.

10. Every time one of BP's supporters tries to blame the regulators...
...this should be put to them: "So it is your belief that, if no one enforces the law, and a regulator takes money to overlook the breaking of the law, then the perpetrator should be given a free pass, or at least have their culpability reduced."

13. She hasn't gotten the RNC memo telling her what to say and what specific focus-tested words to use
Since it is one of those "social-wedge" issues the Bushies use to further stupefy the debate and energize the base, I suspect that comment won't be bothered with.

It's not about which is more "horrible", it's strictly a marketing and PR decision.

By pretending to be the opposite of what she is on THAT issue would wake up the Bushie base to her inherent mendacity and duplicity.

However, the Gulf Gusher is a national issue and not a long-used wedge issue, so whatever she says won't make much difference to the RW Authoritarian Follower base, because Authoritarian Followers are characterized by mental compartmentalization that will enable them to look right through it or, if they have an unusually high level of consciousness for RW Authoritarian Followers (which is to say, more than zero), will just knowingly mutter to themselves, "She's just saying that as a tactic to smash the Lib'ruls."

Which is OK to them, even though she is betraying one of the RWs core values, which is that there should be NO regulation at all. They know she doesn't really believe it. The point is to make her sound more reasonable to moderates and independants (typically low-information voters who won't notice because they've not been paying attention and the Corporate M$M/RW Lie Machine will make sure no one mentions it, at least not to enough people to make a statistical difference).

Ultimately, what it comes down to as this, she can say anything she wants that reverses her course, so long as she doesn't do so on the tiny handful of wedge issues by which the RW Authoritarian Leaders use to manipulate the RW Authoritarian Followers.
