High Court Nominee Kagan May Get Support From Republicans
Source: Bloomberg

June 1 (Bloomberg) -- Some Republican senators are extolling the record of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, suggesting she might win confirmation with support from many members of the minority party.

Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Susan Collins of Maine and Richard Lugar of Indiana are among the Republicans praising her. They say Kagan’s background, including serving as dean of Harvard Law School, is impressive and her lack of judicial experience isn’t a barrier to serving on a high court.

Barring surprises, there may be more votes for Kagan than for President Barack Obama’s first Supreme Court appointee, Sonia Sotomayor, said Manuel Miranda of the conservative judicial group Third Branch Conference in Washington. Sotomayor was approved 68-31 last year.

“Elena Kagan is going to get much more support from Republicans,” Miranda said in an interview, predicting the total would exceed 70.

2. Moderate Republicans like her. The women from Maine are pro choice
and I am sure like the idea of having another woman on the court.

7. of course they will support her
she moves the court ever rightward, from Stevens who she replaces. Thank GOD we voted for a president who would appoint justices who would stop the righward drift of the Court. Oh, wait!

11. I am just happy that it is Obama doing the nominating and not McCain.
It is going to be a very slow process turning America in a Left leaning direction...Very slow, but the process has begun..
