Glenn Beck feuds with congressman over gold investigation
Source: Yahoo

Fox News host and conservative talker Glenn Beck is firing back after New York Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner issued a report critical of Goldline International, a gold retailer and one sponsor of Beck's cable show. Goldline is among several gold concerns that advertise with Beck while Beck offers testimonials about gold — an arrangement that's sparked some conflict-of-interest complaints about the pundit.

For the past two days, Beck has hit back at the congressman, claiming on the air that Weiner's tactics evoke the late red-baiting Sen. Joe McCarthy. "Now we have a congressman actually trying on the shoes of McCarthy," Beck said Wednesday morning. On Tuesday he railed that "we are in full-fledged McCarthy Land now." Beck requested Wednesday that his radio listeners submit photos showing Weiner with "his nose as a weiner," possibly to prepare for a segment devoted to the congressman's charges on a Fox television broadcast later Wednesday. You can listen to the appeal here:

The congressman is returning Beck's rhetorical fire. "It is not surprising that Glenn Beck is attempting to deflect from his behavior in promoting Goldline," Weiner told Yahoo! News in a statement. "But the facts are clear. Goldline rips off consumers and Glenn Beck helps."

In the report (on Weiner's House website as a PDF), Weiner charges that Goldline "grossly overcharges" for coins and makes false claims about gold being a good investment. Goldline touts gold as a more solid investment in this economic climate.

1. Beck is an idiot
Edited on Wed May-19-10 05:21 PM by Andy823
Who is only in it all for the money, and to stroke his own ego.

Maybe Beck should read this:

http://money.cnn.com/2010/05/19/news/economy/gold.price.collapse.fortune/index.htm

(Fortune) -- When gold prices turn skyward, like they did for the past two weeks before some recent flattening, some mix of greed, fear and uncertainty are likely ruling the market. What better time to remember what really drives prices over the long-term: market fundamentals. Through that lens, gold might not be such a hot investment.

The gold market works much like any other, with supply and demand eventually equalizing, and runaway prices returning to long-term averages. Since 1980, the price of gold has averaged about $440 an ounce in U.S. dollars. But much like U.S. home prices over this decade, it can take some time for prices to return to normal.

Barclays Wealth in London predicts gold will fall to a fair value of $800 an ounce by 2012, as investors eventually dump it for riskier trades; Societe Generale, the French bank, in April 2009 predicted $800 gold by the end of 2010, though it has reversed its stance since then. Analyst John Nadler of gold deal Kitco predicts gold will fall to $900 in 2011. (See editor's note below.)

Their reasoning is simple: investors are keeping prices high even as demand from non-investors is cratering.

3. Weiner shouldn't limit himself to going after these gold salespeople
There are tons of "financial advisers" out there who are nothing more than expensive mutual fund or annuity salespeople. It's the same thing Beck and Goldline are doing, except on a smaller individual scale.

18. Make them start lining up well before the polls open?
Then, again, he's a Congressman. If he ever wants to run for Senator, he'll have to deal with the whole state, not only his district.

5. Weiner's a Winner in my book!
Gotta love a guy willing to call out a looney like Beck. If this stuff starts to tarnish Beck's gold, I'd be lookin' for Beck to melt and consequently reveal the true base mettle of his makeup - lead.

I thought he was one of their misunderstood heroes. I mean, Ann Coulter loves him, and still thinks he was right!

Weeeeeell.... Glenn also believes Rockefeller Center is covered in commie art and therefore all that comes from there is commie... and he thinks you spell "oligarchy" o-l-i-g-a-r-h-y.

So.... whatever!

19. First, Lenin was a Communist.

.

Second, having Lenin in a mural doesn't make a fresco Socialist art, anymore than having Washington in a fresco makes something capitalist art.

Yes, a Socialist was the artist. And? We already have identity politics. Shall we have identity art, too?

Idolators designed the Acropolis. And? Slaveowners designed a lot of our nation's capitol. And? It has nothing to do with whether the art is worthwhile

Third, having Lenin in a fresco doesn't equate to Rockefeller Center's having been covered in anything. It's a big place, 22 acres.

Above and beyond all that, Beck recites that to imply that the kind of art that WAS PAPERED OVER as soon as it went up in the 1930's, then destroyed, actually means something about NBC today.

Ah, yes, John D. and Nelson Rockefeller, the world's foremost Communists. And therefore, pay no attention to Keith Olberman and what he says about the Socialists who are now running our country. That's the kind of message the fool wants to send.

16. Yes, Selling Gold
Even our local TV news show did a story on these scam businesses.

Besides much of the gold in the world comes from Africa & China - Africa is notorious for using child labor - those kids spend 16 - hours a day wallowing in mud to get a tiny nugget. 60 Minutes did a lengthy story about it last year - pretty disgusting view of the gold industry.
