Columbus (Ohio) Is Latest City To Protest Arizona Immigration Law
Source: WBNS-TV

City workers will no longer be able to travel to Arizona for business, because of its new law allowing police to demand documentation from anyone they suspect of being an illegal alien.

Mayor Michael Coleman issued the order to city department heads, 10TV News reported on Tuesday.

The city did not have any recurring trips to the Grand Canyon state, but city workers have attended conferences there in the past, the mayor's spokesman Dan Williamson said.

The city will not stop doing business entirely with Arizona, as some others have, Williamson said.

5. Sure...I am freeper and straight
Wanna ask my partner?

I don't support SB1070, but these misguided boycotts are only hurting the little people here in Arizona.

And where the fuck were all the boycotts every time anti-gay laws/amendments are passed?

that's right, most of DU doesn't give a shit about gay rights.

I once called for a vacation boycott of Florida and Virginia for all of their gay-hating laws. That went over like a lead ballon, with folks here going ballistic at the very thought. Yes, where are the folks calling for boycotts of so many states with bigoted, anti-gay laws, laws that affect everything from employment to health care to marriage and even funeral rights.

Funny how these boycotts of AZ are celebrated here when no one gave a rat's ass when it came to boycotting on behalf of the millions in the GLBT community.

9. Thank you for your support
Even today, with the hateful news coming out of Africa, silence on DU about it.

Silence from the White House.

14. Exactly! If these self-righteous city folk had half the disgust for immoral or illegal wars ...

we'd have billions upon billions of dollars to spend on domestic programs instead of the MIC's Death and Destruction.

If we significantly pared down the MIC, it wouldn't matter if all of Mexico basically immigrated to the USA - we would have invested in PEOPLE instead of the God Almighty Corporations of Wall Street and The Pentagon.

11. I live in Arizona and here is what I say to you
if you support this hideous law then you are a moron. I hate to see my state acting the fool but if these boycotts will remove this law, and the pain and suffering by our Latino community here, and remove those like Pearce and Arpaio, then I am for it. I just hate to see people suffer but this law will hurt innocent people and our nation.

12. No, I do not support the law
And I would love to be able to get rid of Arpaio and Pearce.

My partner is hispanic. His dad works with mostly undocumented families in social services. I am well aware of the impact of the law, and concerns it causes. I am hopeful that it will be found unconstitutional.

But the boycotts are misguided. Will end up hurting the poor more than the rich.

15. Oh please, that's far from progressive. If the federal government won't do it's job ...
why don't you vent your anger at them, not those of us who believe that Arizona doesn't have much of a choice if they wish to stem the tide of massive illegal immigration?

do their damn job: Secure the Border!
