Turtle deaths running high since oil spill
Source: Reuters

At least 150 sea turtles have washed up dead or dying along the U.S. Gulf Coast since the giant oil spill off Louisiana, a higher number than normal for this time of year, a leading wildlife expert said on Monday.

The toll among sea turtles has been steadily rising since the deep-sea well ruptured last month, and the stranding count began to reach an unusually high level in the past week, said Dr. Michael Ziccardi, a veterinarian overseeing some of the area's wildlife rescue teams.

3. That's the sad part. It really is only the beginning of a very
long, escalating road. :argh:

5.  u r going to make me cry
:( I heard this morning on local news that the oil in the loop current could reach us in less than 20 days. Don't understand why there aren't tankers siphoning more. It's almost like it's intentional

6. I don't think it's intentional....
well, the minimal liability that the oil giants are held to is quite intentional. I think it's just a matter of complete complacency. The BP stations are still packed with cars buying their gas and they've already spilled far more oil than the cap will cover. The damage to their bottom line is done, why rush into anything now.

As we saw with exxon after the valdez spill, the company will survive, the boss gets his bonus, and the government will do as little as possible to change anything.

I'm already crying. Going to the OBX this weekend to get some final pics of it before it's covered with tar balls and ruined.

4. But of course there is no proof that the turtles are dead because of the oil gusher

Turtles die says BP. Stop looking at us.
