Palin blasts Illinois school's decision not to send girls' basketball team to Arizona
Source: USA Today

An Illinois school district has decided not to allow a girls high school basketball team to compete in a tournament in Arizona this winter because of the state's new law targeting undocumented immigrants, the Pioneer Press newspaper reports.

The newspaper quotes Sue Hebson, assistant superintendent of District 113, as saying the decision is about safety, not politics.

She tells the Pioneer Press:

Rather, under long standing constitutional law, all school districts are required to provide an education to all children within the District's borders regardless of immigration status. Similarly, when our students travel, the school district is responsible, both legally and ethically, for their safety, security and liberty.

...

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who was attending a rally in Rosemont Hills, Ill., weighed in on the issue before a crowd of 4,000 people, according to Chicago Sun-Times political reporter Lynn Sweet.

"Them are fightin' words when you say a girl can't play in the basketball tournament ... for political reasons ... so we're going to see about that," Palin said, according to the newspaper.

Palin suggested conservatives could raise the money to send the girls anyway: "It makes no sense. Even if they have to do this on our own ... If the kids have to 'Go Rogue' girls.

30. If they don't
and I suspect that they feel they have earned the right to compete in the tournament, would that change your mind about the school board's policy?

Why are a bunch of kids being used as a political tool to send Arizona a message?

33. I heard that this school sends students to China, which I would Arizona would be
a more safe place to go to. I feel that they have earned the chance to play and should be able to.

Just to keep those big speaker fee checks flowing in!

31. I'm with you
I have to wonder what the fascination is.

This bitch is in no way amusing or entertaining. She's nasty, mean and ignorant and doesn't care what she says to stir up shit.

There's a reason I don't visit FreeRepublic or listen to Rush Limbaugh. If I cared to know what was said, I'd check it out.

Why does anyone even WANT to know what they say? We already know it's going to be worthless, inflammatory, ignorant crap.

"Them are fightin' words when you say a girl can't play in the basketball tournament ... for political reasons.."

So she's saying that playing in a sporting event is more important than standing up for your political beliefs?

So if Iran was holding an international sport tournament, she would have no objection to sending her girls over there because sports trumps politics right?

Her hypocrisy and stupidity knows no bounds.

She is also a lesbian. Her SO is a Mexican/American. She needs her head examined. If she wanted "warm weather", she should have moved to California, or better yet, New Mexico. No, forget miserable Florida too. Almost as bad as Arizona as far as rights are concerned.

that the players don't want to go? Maybe the players see Arizona's immigration law as "fighting words".

That's right Sarah, not everyone is a shit head racist without a conscience like you.

38. Yup, there are children on that team who are at risk imho. And the staff knows it.
They would be extremely irresponsible to bring anyone there who may be jeopardized.

Sarah Palin is ignoring the obvious - there ARE children who are involved in the immigration issue. We ignore them at our peril. Arizona's law is treacherous, even especially for those who are most at risk.

....start 'raising' and then dig deep into your own substantial political war-chest if you like, but,

....I think wailin' palin, front walker of the Republican Tea Party, doesn't like the good people of Illinois or their principled decisions....may I make a suggestion, Illinois? Consider boycotting all Alaska and palin products while you're at it....

"Them are fightin' words..."

....they sure are, especially coming from a screechy bitch who has the brazen gall to preach to the good people of Illinois and question their local decisions....states rights, states rights....
