Pakistan failed to protect Bhutto, probe death-UN
Source: Reuters

Pakistan failed to properly protect former prime minister Benazir Bhutto or investigate her December 2007 assassination, and it also hampered a United Nations inquiry, U.N. investigators reported on Thursday.

The 65-page report said that the inquiry commission believes the failure by Pakistani authorities to effectively investigate Bhutto's death was "deliberate." It added that the U.N. probe was "severely hampered" by intelligence agencies and government officials.

"While she died when a 15-and-a-half-year-old suicide bomber detonated his explosives near her vehicle, no one believes that this boy acted alone," the report said.

"The commission was mystified by the efforts of certain high-ranking Pakistani government authorities to obstruct access to military and intelligence sources," it added.

3. Bhutto murder investigation flawed: UN
Source: CBC News

Pakistani police deliberately failed to properly investigate the 2007 assassination of former prime minister and opposition leader Benazir Bhutto — a political murder that could have been prevented, a UN report says.

A special United Nations commission began looking into the assassination last July as part of a deal with the Pakistani government. It delivered its conclusions Thursday afternoon.

"There was little to no focus placed on investigating those further up the hierarchy in the planning, the financing and the execution of the assassination," Chile's UN ambassador, Heraldo Munoz, who chaired the commission, said at a news conference.

Munoz also said the Pakistani government "failed in its primary responsibility to provide protection" to Bhutto on the day of her death, despite clear warnings of threats on her life.

4. Apparently that's what you get when you
attempt to inform the world that "Bin Laden is Dead".

___________________________________________________________________________

Benazir Bhutto, who was killed in a suicide attack at the end of 2007 stated in November that the Osama bin Laden, the head of the international terrorist network al-Qaida, had been killed. Bhutto claimed that she even knew the man who had killed the prime suspect of 9/11 terrorist attacks in the USA. According to Bhutto’s words, Bin Laden was killed by Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh – one of those convicted of kidnapping and killing U.S. journalist Daniel Pearl.

Bhutto released that statement on November 2, 2007 in an interview with Al-Jazeera TV channel. Bhutto spoke in English in the program titled Frost Over the World. However, no one paid any attention to her words. Speaking about the enemies, who did not wish to see her back in Pakistan, she said: “Omar Sheikh is the man who murdered Osama bin Laden.”

The video of Bhutto’s interview to Al-Jazeera can be found on YouTube (click to watch the video). The assassinated Pakistani prime minister says the words about Bin Laden’s killer during the second minute of the interview. She stays absolutely calm when she pronounces the names. More than 600,000 people have already viewed the video.

5. Nothing new to this country
We ALWAYS fail to investigate. Oklahoma bombing with "other" explosive devices in a "Federal Building". 9/11 where the Pentagon does NOTHING to protect D.C. JFK where the SS stands down on security. But hey the vast majority of people believe what they are told and others are looked at like they are nuts. We would look foolish if we actually investigated anything to the fullest. It just might turn out different. Then Texas would have to rewrite rewrite history again.

6. This investigation was by the Pakistani government
which was probably behind Bhutto's assassination, so I'm not surprised the investigation was flawed. It's like foxes conducting an investigation to find out who raided the henhouse.

11. Sounds like Dodd's "consumer protection" financial bill. Maybe that's just a universal.

7. This happened in Pakistan.
I haven't figured out why they postponed releasing this, however. No real surprises in it.
