Mitsubishi to build Arkansas wind turbine plant
Source: Green Technology Daily

Mitsubishi said this week it will produce wind turbines in Arkansas by next year at a new $100 million plant, a facility that signals the company is seeking to regain its U.S. customers.

Company executives gathered with state and local officials in Fort Smith, Arkansas to mark Mitsubishi's decision to build the plant, which will employ at least 400 people and help stem the tide of manufacturing jobs that have left the Fort Smith area.

10. Why would any company choose to build a factory in a union state?
It isnt worth it to do so.

13. Nope --- The union would insist on
1. safe working conditions

2. no age/gender discrimination

3. a decent health insurance plan

4. a fair wage for work performed

all of the above an anathema to a Capitalist thug corporation

14. Which may be why 'union states'
no longer have jobs...the demands, right as they may be, have sent manufacturers packing to 3rd world countries at worst and non-union states at best. I am quite sure workers in Arkansas are happy with the prospect of getting those jobs instead of Mexico.

7. So the money will go to Japan
Instead of circulating here in the US. Great, now we are stimulating the Japanese economy. Too bad we can't keep it in the US. At least they will be hiring under paid people living in America.

But don't expect them to pay any state taxes.

"Mitsubishi will receive $3.75 million from the state of Arkansas' Quick Action Closing Fund. It will also get a 15-year state income tax abatement, sales tax refunds for construction materials and equipment and other incentives."

A 15 year state income tax abatement for a mere 300 to 500 jobs, That's about 1 year for every 33 jobs.

9. Hope they sell enough in Arkansas...
to stay afloat to take advantage of taxpayer subsidies.

Where are our engineers, our designers, our plants and our workers? Our Unions?

11. Well hopefully
the workers can stimulate the economy with their wages.

It beats unemployment checks.

I live in AR and I'm not happy about the income tax abatement, sales tax refunds, etc. but it could be worse.
I am sure the people getting these jobs aren't worried about that.

I do hate the workers can't unionize and if I had it my way they could unionize and there wouldn't be all these giveaways to Mitsubishi.

12. With Tyson's and Wal-Mart headquartered in Arkansas,
and various Michigan and other Rust Belt transplant companies in the state, I think it's a safe bet to say that the state won't be unionizing any time soon.

15. This is really such nonsense
So the money will go to Japan

Sometime look at a manufacturer's profit margin...it is almost always sub 5%. Is this the money you are talking of going to Japan? I say who the fuck cares where the 5% goes? I am interested where the 35%+ of sales price which accounts for labor is going. What good does the 5% GM makes off of cars produced in Mexico do you, or the larger economy? Hint, it does neither you nor the economy any significant good unless you are a stock holder..and there are plenty of US Americans with Mitsubishi stock in their portfolio and retirement accounts, so even some of the 5% will stay in the US stockholders accounts. And the state of Arkansas will in fact collect taxes from sales to those who now have a decent pay check and can buy things including real estate and other taxable goods, as well as paying income tax.

I just don't get why every time a foriegn named company decides to invest in America, we have these types of complaints, while the companies with good ol'merican names are building the economies of Mexico and other countries...looking a gift horse in the mouth?

16. Because generally speaking, people are stupid and react with their gut
America has become a nation of whiners instead of achievers.

17. The money will go to 500 families that wouldn't otherwise have a job
here in America. Those families will pay taxes. Those families will buy goods helping to bring in more jobs around the area.

Your logic is so flawed it's not even funny.
