Massa to resign under ethics cloud
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON — New York Democrat Eric Massa is stepping down from his seat, effective Monday, in the House of Representatives.

Knowledgable Democratic officials told The Associated Press that Massa, who has announced he will not seek reelection due to a recurrance of cancer, is resigning his seat.

The House ethics panel is reviewing a complaint by a male staffer who reportedly felt uncomfortable in a situation with Massa that had sexual overtones.

The freshman lawmaker won a longtime Republican district that was carried in 2008 by John McCain.

3. I couldn't agree with you more...
Considering he represents my district, I feel especially moved by this.

I'd rather not spectulate into the ethics investigation, but as far as not seeking reelection due to health condition, I couldn't agrue with the man.

Good luck Eric, we're behind you and we'll work to reestablish your district with another Democrat!

who would have voted "yes" IF she needed them... but preferred not to because his district leans right.

In fact... Cook has already moved the race from Lean D to Lean R

Just what we need.

7. Broadband Internet Fairness Act, by Massa
Is it just a coincidence that one of Today's stories is: "http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Time-Warner-Cable-We-Raise-Broadband-Rates-Because-We-Can-107197?nocomment=1">Time Warner Cable: We Raise Broadband Rates Because We Can"

More FEAR MONGERING, just what repugs want.

As written, I think its a non-story. The guy is resigning because he's got terminal cancer.

'Massa’s the son of a Naval officer and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1981. Before coming to Washington, Massa served as a top aide to former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Wesley Clark.

But Friday afternoon, Massa decided to step down, describing himself in a statement as a “deeply flawed and imperfect person.”

And Massa pinned his resignation on the use of a sharp tongue in the workplace.

“There is no doubt in my mind that I did in fact, use language in the privacy of my own home and in my inner office that, after 24 years in the Navy, might make a Chief Petty Officer feel uncomfortable,” Massa said.

He added that an aide “believed I had made statements that made him feel ‘uncomfortable.’”'

12. Wow - he was out here on the left coast
in February. I met him @ a house party/fundraiser. He had been the XO of the house party host. He mentioned the cancer but said he was in remission. He was very pleasant, answered all our question about the health care legislation, offered some insights. His wife was also there. Sorry to hear about this.
