Eight people remain in critical condition in the Madrid attacks. More than 1,600 were injured altogether.

Police told The Associated Press Ali Amrous was picked up in the northern city of San Sebastian, in the Basque region, on Saturday to determine if he had advance knowledge of Thursday's terrorist attacks in Madrid that killed 200 people.

An international probe into the Madrid bombings sharpened its focus on al-Qaida terrorist cells amid reports that police have identified five new Moroccan suspects and that two Indians detained in the attack were released.

maybe the bombings had more to do with 9/11 than Iraq? Someone pointed out in another thread that OBL is always referring to some centuries-old "Caliphate of Spain" thing.
As long as the Spanish authorities have the leader of al-queda in spain in custody, terrorist acts will continue.
