KABUL, Afghanistan - An explosion has hit near a U.S. military base in Afghanistan's capital, NATO officials said.
A spokesman for the international force, Lt. Nico Melendez, said the blast occurred in the vicinity of Camp Phoenix. He said no injuries were yet reported but did not have further details.
The head of Kabul's criminal investigations unit said it was a strike by a suicide car bomber, but Abdul Ghafar Sayedzada said he did not know what the target was or if the blast had inflicted any casualties.

KABUL (Reuters) - A suicide bomber blew himself up in the Afghan capital Kabul on Tuesday, causing civilian and foreign military casualties, a security source said.
"It was a suicide attack on foreign troops. There are casualties among Afghan civilians and foreign forces," the source said, adding the attack happened on a road leading eastwards from the city centre close to several foreign military bases.
