President Obama: Airline attack was preventable
Source: Associated Press

President says intelligence officials 'failed to connect the dots'

President Barack Obama said Tuesday that U.S. intelligence had enough advance information to prevent the attempted attack on a U.S. airliner on Christmas Day but failed to connect the dots.

He said there were enough "red flags" that an attack was planned on the U.S. but errors were made by intelligence officials.

"The U.S. government had sufficient information to uncover this plot and disrupt the attack but intelligence community failed to connect the dots," the president told reporters at the White House. "That’s not acceptable and I will not tolerate it."

He said he has ordered security officials to quickly come up with specific recommendations to prevent future incidents.

3. This is actually refreshing
It's nice to have a president admit when his agencies don't do their work.

I hope they are also held accountable for their mistakes, rather than rewarded as was the case with the previous administration.

4. "Accountable"? I want to see people lose their jobs.
I'm sick of this vanilla word 'Accountable' . How many sackings up and down the food chain occurred after Katrina.
