Stupak, working with GOP, trying to sink abortion compromise
Source: Politico

An aide to Rep. Bart Stupak (D. Mich.) coordinated opposition to a Senate compromise on the place of abortion in health care legislation this morning with the Republican Senate leadership, the Conference Catholic Bishops, and other anti-abortion groups, according to a chain of frantic emails obtained this morning by POLITICO.

Stupak, in an interview with POLITICO, called the Senate’s bill’s abortion position unacceptable – but disavowed his staffer’s collaboration with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

I never talked to McConnell about the health care bill, said Stupak, adding that that I did not authorize the email and that it was sent without my knowledge.

Stupak said that he has discussed the Senate’s abortion position with Nelson and Casey, and his opposition in spite of intense pressure from the White House to accept it could augur a challenge to the compromise in the House when the two versions of the bill are reconciled.

1. There is a lesson in this for all of us
NEVER, EVER, VOTE FOR AN ANTICHOICE DEMOCRAT!

If they're antichoice, you can bet they're zealots who will sink anything the country needs for a chance to insert their religious dogma into civil law.

They're also likely to be right wing in other areas, as well.

Please wake up. Try to knock these guys out of the race in the primary.

2. The problem isn't those of us here...
The problem is that the majority of the country apparently believes in Gawd and Guns and hates the Gays and thinks if we forced everyone to do what Dobson says and have forced prayer in schools and force people to go to church (which exact church to be fought over later amongst the factions I guess)then Gawd will love Amurrika again and we'll all be rich again.

The problem is that the vast majority of Americans are so stupid they can't think, and are being led by the nose by the fascist media.

We have no hope. Our only hope is to escape the hell this country is becoming and move to Europe or some civilized place like that.

5. but the majority of the country is also pro-choice
so if that's true about God, guns, etc., aren't some people contradicting themselves??

Personally, I just think this guy Stupak is the stupid, thoughtless one.

7. I know quite a few men who are ostensibly pro-choice
But when it comes to a politician, they really don't care at all whether the politician is pro-choice or not. They care about other issues. This really is, unfortunately, an issue only women care about from what I can tell.

8. While that is true in some parts of the country
like rural Dixie and the upper, rural midwest, the majority of the country is elsewhere. Consider that the majority are prochoice, want us out of Stupid's wars today, want the Pentagon budget cut and the rich taxed, and want a public health insurance option.

Since antichoice Democrats are likely to be against all of the above, they need to be defeated until the party wises up and stops running them.

13. You have it wrong
Never vote for any politician whose loyalty to their god trumps their loyalty to this country and the Constitution.

16. I'm with you, Warpy.
Anyone who thinks he has a right to interfere in a woman's very private medical decisions - who thinks he has more of a right to make an important decision about her body than she does... that person has no business whatsoever in government.

Perhaps there was some logic to promise that dumb ass anything to get the bill out of the house, and now the Senate, and selected members from the house will reconcile it, and the Senate will vote it in
