Jury convicts Baltimore mayor on one count
Source: ABC2 News

Baltimore, MD - The jury convicted Mayor Sheila Dixon on one count of fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary.

Dixon was acquitted of felony theft charges.

The jury couldn't reach an unanimous decision on count six. The judge declared a mistrial. The state has until the end of the week to decide whether to refile the charges related to that count.

After the verdict was read, Dixon promised that the city will continue to run.

When asked whether the mayor would step down from office, Dixon's attorney, Arnold Weiner said, "All things are being considered."

How lucky of her.

I wonder if she'll resign or continue to serve.

1. Problem is I heard that it's illegal in Maryland
...to serve as a mayor and have a felony.

2. She wasn't convicted of the felony charges
The problem she faces is that there's a law that you cannot serve if you've been convicted of a crime that has anything to do with serving in a public office.

3. Stephanie wants her gone

President of City Council Stephanie Rawlings-Blake supposedly is ready to cut her loose. But Mayor Dixon could appeal. A multi-year investigation by an Ehrlich appointee ends up with one misdemeanor conviction -- better luck next time Chip.

4. The prosecutor needs to be indicted for Perjury.
In this trial he claims the gift cards were gifts to the Holly Trolley that she misappropriated. In Dixon's March 1 Perjury trial. He will claim that the gift card were Gifts to her that she should have reported on ethics forms. That's Perjury. The Prosecutor can't have it both ways. If they were a gift to Dixon. Then she cannot Misappropriate a gift to her. The prosecutor has filed false charges in this case. If they were a gift to Holly Trolley. Dixon can misappropriate them. But she doesn't have to report them on ethics forms because they are not gifts to her. So the prosecutor has filed False charges against her in the perjury trial.
